My friend and I saw a yellow tang and it is BEAUTFIUL!!! Everything about it is beautiful...BUT BLACK ICH!!! My friend wanted to get it for his 75 but I Warned him. He said he had like Kordon Ich medicine but I told him he should get advice before he spends $40 on a fish with tiny black spots...I learned my lesson and do not plan on getting any more fish until after the new year.

Is it possible to put it in his QT with the medicine and have a good chance? I figured many experience people here have better answers I can give him.

I told him to wait, we just have not seen Yellow Tangs in a long time...And I have not seen a Royal Gramma either (sorry to go off on my thoughts on my royal gramma fish lol, thinking out loud).

you should come to my neck of the woods, at the LFS we were at yesterday they had 4x royals and 2x yellow tangs. All in all, their selection of fish was rather excellent. All of their fish look to be rather healthy. HOWEVER we did witness some rather questionable aclimation steps taken for a puffer. But all in all the store comes highly recomended from my local marine forums and as I said, i dont think i have seen an ill fish on display there.

There is a great store in my area...kind of (Houston area) or I am told its great. He saw this fish at ***** and he has had fish live and die from there and the LFS so he does not care where it comes. He almost feels like he is saving the fish from ***** lol! In any case, I spoke with him an hour ago and he told me he did not buy the fish.

Hi Jeff10 I am not a expert but if the LFS store you are referring to is on 290 it is where I bought my set up and they do have a very wide selection of salt water and fresh water and their fish every time I have been there have looked healthy if your friend would check out that place before buying I just bought a yellow tang from them two weeks ago and he is doing fine. I'm pretty sure he was under 50 bucks.

I boycott purchasing fish from *****.

Anyways, if the fish has black ich and he has a quaratine and is dead set on getting it, it can be cured in a QT tank. I would make them come down on the price though. ***** won't treat the fish, they're not allowed to use copper in their systems, it's a corporate rule. The fish will ultimately die if left at *****, so in one way he would be saving the fish. I would tell him to do a lot of research about black ich. IME, it's not as easy to treat as regular ich for some reason, but absolutely doable.

He should really wait until it gets a little cooler out, then you should start to see more of a selection of fish in your LFS again.

Yeah he is not getting it. Good info everyone, thank you BTL

Cooper. yeah that store is on 290, I live up in Spring/Woodlands so its a 35 minute drive for us which is not bad but Houston Traffic makes it bad.

In any case, I am done buying fish unless I see a Gramma, I had my battle with Ich which is why I told my friend to stay away from the Yellow Tang.
