Would you want to be on a plane with a flight attendant over size 18?

Right now there is a guy at work who's weight has become a problem for us. It's such an uncomfortable position to be in, but somehow it has landed directly in my lap
.
I hope not literally

If you can't get down the aisle easily or squeeze into an occupied seat to let a passenger by, you cannot do the job IMO. That sounds so trivial, I know. But 90% of their time is navigating the aisle.

MY g/f is heavy, as is her sister and her mother, and now her daughter ....Sometimes I truely believe it is hereditary and some people are pre-destined to be heavy....
Excuse me Health people if I am wrong, but I have seen this my whole life.....with certain people

i agree it can be hereditery, it is also unhealthy.
it can be dealt with either through diet or medications.
are they doing anything at all to lose the weight.
my friends whole family is big he was at a little over 300 lbs and went on a diet 6 or 8 months ago and now is 240.
he will never be skinny but he is trying.
if they need to put thier health in front of eating then so be it.its a sacrifice they need to make to live the full potential of life.
i am sure thier family and friends want them around as long as possible.
the post i made has nothing to do with being a health nut it has to do with living right for yourself.
alot of people forget we eat to live not live to eat.
my aunt is a big woman she is the sweetest person you will meet.
she wakes up in the middle of the night and eats potato chips.my mom cries to her to stop being selfish so she will be around longer.

Obesity is one of the biggest health issues in this country. I live in San Antonio, and we're one of the Top 10 'fattest' cities in the nation (why they now refer to us as Fat Antonio). The problem here is it's mostly a Hispanic community, and their diets are nothing but fat to say the least.
I can agree there are hereditary issues for some people, but as deejeff said, there's medications available to assist with that issue. Unfortunately, our society has 'let itself go', and have accepted a more laisse-fair attitude about eating right and exercising. Why exercise when you have everything at your fingertips technology-wise? Sit on your rear in front of the TV, computer, cell phone, or video game all day? I flipped on that new show Wipeout the other night, and they had this Couples competition. Out of the 12 couples who were competing, 10 of them looked excessively obese. Did this network program pick these people specifically, or is that just the standard percentage of American couples who are overweight these days?
How many of you get at least 30 minutes of cardiac-intensive exercise everyday? Do you watch your calorie intake?

I do, longer than 30 min actually. Nope, I don't watch my calorie intake. But then, I don't eat french fries, hamburgers, chips, and other junk food anyways.

To refer to the topic, as long as ANY person can physically do the job then I really don't care what they look like. I'm not there to look at eye candy. I'm on a flight to get to where I'm going.
And to refer to the obese American issue....I work out 1 1/2 hours 5 days a week at a gym and watch what I eat. I'm not skinny but I'm not fat either. It's very hard for me to lose weight but I'm keeping myself healthy by drinking lots of water and eating vegetables, fruits, grains and lean meats. I'm healthy but I'm not small. So I figure I'm beautiful like this and if someone doesn't like the way I look then they don't need to be looking anyway.

meowser i just want to clarify ,i dont pick on or call overweight people names.
i dont like to see people harm thenselves this way.
being overweight has more bad health issues than say smoking or drinking.
i went from my

[hr]
gym to a 24 hr fitness ,because the

[hr]
dont a/c the place in the summer.
i see alot of overweight people trying thier hearts out in there.
probably every third time i am in there someone will come up to my for some advice and i am more than happy to help.
i have worked the night shift for a short time and it is no way healthy.
the sun goes down its bedtime not worktime.

Hey Deejeff...you sure don't owe me an explanation...LOL...I cracked a small joke too....Overall...I am very weight conscious myself...And I am sure I am guilty of making some unkind remarks...at least in my mind anyway....

I think if they're so big that they interfere with mobility within the plane it isn't just a convenience issue, it is a safety issue-which anyone over an 18 would be. I also think the hereditary link for obesity is overblown-it has more to do with attitudes toward, amounts eaten and types of food eaten within a family. I am currently 6'5"-190#. Folks tell me all the time how lucky I am to be "skinny"-which my stomach still isn't. I am not lucky, I have to be careful what and how much I eat. Two of my brothers are 350# + and one is 300# +. Half my sisters are 200# +. It has nothing to do with genetics and everything to do with self control. I see what they eat and how much. They whine all the time how they eat normally and gain weight-normal foods in massive, never-ending quantities. It would be easy for me to go down that road and I choose not to. It's not easy to say no, but I don't want to be fat like my family.
