You have a 15 hour total daylight cycle? Or did I misunderstand that?
I have always had this schedule.....actinics on at 7....off at 10 pm
metal halides run later....6-7 hours total for them

the 6-7 may not be...but the 15 hours of actinics is like the maximum amount sunlight in the middle of the summer on a completely sunny day every single day.
i dunno...I've just read that one of the best things to do when cyano starts is to cut the lighting.

IDK what to do....like I said...I have always had them on like this.....Do you think I can have the actinics come on in the morning for an hour....then go off for 2 or 3...and come back on
this way I can still feed them in the morning

Just sayin...from what I've been reading, the best thing to do is cut the lighting down in the mean time till the true source/sources can be pin pointed. Then once the problem is taken care of, slowly bring the lights back up.

Just me...
I'd cut the lights down.
Cut back on the algae sheets. (twice a week)
Rinse all frozen foods.
Manual removal of the cyano. (which you've been doing)
Try for a week or two and see if anything changes.
Only way I know to stop cyano other than manually removing it is to starve it.

If your sand is clumping I would suggest this to be a sign of not enough stirring. You had the ray in there and that helped keep the sand stirred up, the "glue" that is in fact detritus that is clumping the sand is not being stirred enough to be removed by the filters, feeding fish and feeding coral.
Along with that did you put or have a calcium reactor on this tank? My thinking here is that your calcium - alkalinity levels may be too high and the clumping may be a result of this. A dKH of 13 is fine; anything much higher might introduce complications in balancing your chemistry. I kinda like the number 12 dKH. I think you should shoot for a calcium level of 425-450. This is a shot in the dark really but thought I would throw it in there. I still think you need to stir the sand more.
Do you have any sand sifting creatures in this tank, gobies, sand sifting stars? These could be decimating the sandbed infauna and keeping the sand from being stirred.
I would also suggest an army of nassarius snails. They are carrion eaters and they burrow in the upper layer of sand, which stirs it up a bit and they do not prey on the sandbed infauna. Also some cerith snails would help keep the sand clean of algae as well as stir it up.

Dont you have a heavily stocked tank?
I get the cyano from time to time, usually in a small 5-6" patch and that's about it.
It recently came back when I upped my LED's to 12hours a day. Man they look so beautiful! And dirt cheap to operate!

I have one large conch, some nass, some cerith, 1 or 2 fancy nassarius, and I just got a golden headed goby.....I add nothing to my tank to raise calcium
NO I did not add a calcium reactor....I added a phosphate reactor....How do I lower calcium????? Are you saying my alk is ok?????
I am going to order more nass snails....and a couple more conch I think

No, I don't know what your calcium and alk readings are, just throwing out some options to look at. The sleeper goby can grow to 12 inches long. It is a sand sifter and will consume beneficial infauna in the sand bed.

LOL...They are in the 1st post....calcium 460.....alk 11.2
So are you saying the goldenheaded goby is bad??? Right now it is a small one...I just got it because my Large banded bullet sleeper goby disappeared
and I thought these were good for the tank?
