A neighbor has a zenia, rather large one in her 50 gal. soon to be 125 gal.. It has been in for three months, maybe less. She knows a little of what this forum has been discussing but not understanding the ratios yet, {nor do I}she still has just as much a problem with red and hair algea. She will be running an ro system with her new tank. I note that her zenia reaches out longer all the time and it does pulse. I will be getting a few of her frags. Very few. It is an interesting coral. Just commenting. Still trying to figure all the input out you guys have sent in.

Sounds like it's working well for you!! Again, I may have been doing something wrong but after 5- weeks I had a increase of algae in the display and cyano in the refug. At 2- weeks nitrates were 10ppm and PO4s are at .25 ppm. I ran some PO4 remover but the nitrates stayed at 10ppm. This was using Silver tip Xenias, I wonder if it really is a difference between the types of Xenia. If Red Sea Xenias have a faster growth rate they should also have a faster uptake??

I have the other kind of xenia...silvertip or whatever. Anyhow, I have noticed that it has done a great job of exporting nutrients from my 20gal reef. I have never experienced any problems with xenia meltdown that has been talked about. I have noticed that since I did a heavy pruning (just left a little tissue) that the algae is very bad in the tank. The tissue that is there is growing quite fast though and helping to slow the algae growth a little. Do you think that a 18watt pc directly over the top of a app. 10"x12" area would be enough light to grow xenia? The light would be no more than 3" above the water surface with the small fuge only being about 12in high. Thanks
