well, this is my second regular season NFL game. The last one didn't come out too good for the good guys, redskins and cowboys.
I'm really thinking about doing season tickets next year. Doing one or 2 games, selling the rest, if it works out I'll get to go to a game for free...
"A fool and his money are soon parted."
That's what I was told by a buddy when I did the same thing when I lived in Dallas for a couple of years. Unfortunately, when I bought my season tickets, it was back in '89. You know, those glorious 1-15 seasons (or whatever dismal record it was they had). I had pretty decent 10-yard line seats, and ended up giving away half of them because the games weren't worth watching.
What's unbelievable is what fans are willing to pay to go watch a pro football game, and end up sitting in crappy seats. A couple co-workers went to a Dallas game a few weeks back. They ended up in the nose bleed section, where they payed $100/ticket. Both of them told me that instead of watching the players on the field, they watched the entire game on Jerry's new 'big screen TV'. They did mention how big the thing was (I think it's 40 yards wide?) I laughed and told them that they could've saved the $400 they paid for tickets, travel, food, and time, and went with me down to the Buffalo Wild Wings and watched the same game on a smaller big screen with a group of Dallas fans that probably were just as roudy as the one's at the live game. I think I spent $30 total for drinks and food.
If you do decide to buy season tickets, be prepared to spend some buckage. I was looking on the Dallas site, and the cheapest season ticket available is in the top upper deck on the corners. You have to pay $2,000 for a 'One Time Seat Option' (two grand just for the privilege of buying season tickets). Then the 8 game tickets are $790. That's just for one seat. Now you do get the option to buy playoff tickets, but who knows how much those are. You could do the Founder's Option. That's mid field on the lower level. Only $150,000 for the One Time Seat Option, and $3,400 per seat. And that $3400 price is locked in until 2013!!!
If the Cowgirls do continue to do well, you could actually make some money on the season ticket purchase. I used to do it with my Spurs season tickets. I'd sell some of the weak games at a loss just to get rid of the tickets (Miami Heat, LA Clippers, Washington Wizards, etc.), then make up the difference selling one of my Laker, Dallas, or Phoenix game tickets. However, you make the big bucks buying the playoff package. I had season tickets during a couple of the Spurs Championship runs. The first Championship, I attended every game. After seeing them win one, I ended up selling all my playoff tickets when they won the second time. I had two lower level seats, and for the Finals, I sold the pair to a guy for $8000. That sale alone pretty much paid for my entire season playoff package.
