Yellow Watchman Goby/ Pistol Shrimp

OK so I am having troubled finding a paired yellow watchman and pistol shrimp. I've seen the pistol paired with some other gobies on other sites, but I have my heart set on the yellow watchman. If I buy them seperately and introduce them at the same time will they naturally take to one another or is it a crap shoot?

I am no expert, but I think that it is a crap shoot, see post by oneradtek on this site. I remember reading that he had tried introducing them and they had not paired. I think that it would be neat to have a pair. Keep us posted on what you find and good luck.

If it's a crap shoot then I just hit the jackpot! I bought a "paired" tiger pistol shrimp and yellow watchman goby a few weeks ago and the goby died within 36 hours. (I got store credit for him but wasn't sure I wanted to get another one from the same place). I saw a blue-spotted yellow watchman at another LFS on Friday night (pretty small, maybe an 1-1/4") and brought him home not knowing what to expect but knowing that I want a yellow watchman, whether he "paired" with the pistol or not. When I put him in the tank Friday night he swam around for a few minutes and then buried himself under one of the rocks (not the rock that my pistol shrimp lives under). Saturday morning I watched the pistol shrimp "moving" a bunch of his sand into the burrow where the watchman was hiding. I wasn't sure if that was a friendly gesture or if he was trying to block him in. LOL Saturday night when I came home I saw that the goby's burrow was unoccupied so I wasn't sure where he had gone. This morning I see both the shrimp and the goby in the shrimp's burrow.

Now I don't necessarily know if that means they are now a "pair" or if they are both just civilly sharing a rock but it makes me real happy, whichever the case. Actually brings tears to my eyes - what a mushball, huh?

You know how they say yellow watchman goby's are jumpers......, welllll I only have 1/2" open space on my glass hoods, enough for tubing..and it got out and died. So I would be careful. As cool as it was, I don't think I'll get another...they must be pretty smart (or determined) to get out that small of a space.
