Yellow watchman in the house...

Yep, I finally got a yellow watchman goby. I've been tossing it around for at least 6 weeks now. I went into the LFS in town to order one a month ago, but they didn't hold it for me for 2 weeks, and instead sold it. I saw this guy in there 2 weeks ago and thought this is my guy...if he doesn't get sold (he had just gotten there). Today after work I decided to take my chances to see if he was still available. Bingo!!
He's in the acclimation bucket right now, and I can't wait to see where he makes his home. I'm hoping that he gets comfy in the barnacle cluster that I recently put in, or in the little rock cave in front of the tank. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow with the lights on. Until then...I just hope he's okay.
Oh, his name is George Goby.

You not feeling so good?
Yeah, I know about bracing myself for him not feeling comfy where I'm hoping he will, but wouldn't that be cool? Are jawfish out and about at all? Are they pretty much like gobies? I can't believe how active George is, even in the acclimation bucket!! I had to modify the way I'm acclimating him because he kept "beaching" himself!! He's okay now though, I just hope I can fish the little guy out of the bucket.
Also, he's not going in until long after the lunars only are on. Is that going to be okay? I won't be home to keep an eye on him tomorrow either (I usually acclimate fish on the weekends), and that worries me a little.
Got him for Valentine's Day

Well, when they settle down into a home, then they are out constantly, but never leaving the area around their hole.... speaking of the devil...my jawfish is doing one of his hidey things atm... I may have to try a screen or something to get it to build his hole in the are of the tank with the "good" substrate.
As for putting it in after lights out, that is actually a good idea, and have heard it reccomended often.
Do you mean you won't be able to look at your tank till wednsday, or that you won't be home till later in the day?

I just won't be home until later in the day tomorrow.
Good to know that it's better for him to go in after lights out. It seems to me that I've heard that too. They pretty much sound like they behave pretty much like my royal gramma. He found his hiding place, hangs there pretty much, then darts in when he gets spooked, right? But he's always out an about otherwise.
Thanks for your input and advice!! It's always great talking with you!! :jumping:

Name change...our Goby's name is, get this, GARY!! Doncha love it???
So, I put Gary into the tank. It's after lights out. I've never put a fish in that I couldn't at least monitor for an hour or two. The clowns are sleeping, Billie (royal gramma) is tucked in. Sister Mary (Coral beauty angel) is out an about a little bit yet. Gary...he's just kinda laying there on the rock, playing possum. Normal??? I'm thinking so, since he was so active in the acclimation bucket.
I can't wait to see him tomorrow...it's gonna be a long day.

I never saw my watchman in my 125. So I took him out, put him in my 20g and bought a pistol shrimp. He is now my favorite fish. Still shy but out most of the time, guarding the burrow while the shrimp is constantly digging. You should start looking for a shrimp. For me it's what really makes the fish stand out.

Ok, he's found a spot, at least for tonight.
In the process of looking for my new handsome guy, what did I see but a pretty sizable peanut worn...poi!! But I guess they're good for my system.
Interesting evening in my little 37 gal.

Problem is, I have a coral banded shrimp right now, at least until my daughter gets her semi-aggressive tank set up. Til then, I hope that Gary will grace us with his presence. Question, how did you ever get him out of your 125?? He was in a 20gal at the LFS and it took the girl forever to even find him. Then, to get him out of my acclimation bucket, he surprised me...I've never had any of my fish scoot like that!!! I'm gonna love him. I can't wait to see him out and about.

I can't wait to get pics of him. Hopefully tomorrow. I noticed that he's moved from his spot. Not sure where he is right now. I don't like putting fish in that I can't monitor for at least a couple of hours. Sheesh...

I put a yellow watchman in my 45 about 2 mo. ago .... ' haven't seen him since. Hopefully he's taken residence somewhere in the live rock ... maybe someday he'll show himself and surprize me ... if he hasn't turned into food for the clean-up crew.

I put mine in about two months ago and he dissapeared. A month later, I passed him as as dead. Well, while cleaning my return pump, guess who was swimming in my filter!! Don't know how it got through the filter media. Anyway, he's back in and seems to like his new home since it keeps him sheltered from the damsel. He was out yesterday ... I think he was hungry.

:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: YAY LISA!!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: Welcome to the world of gobies! I am pimpressed you did a full acclimation, sometimes mine jump ship or get too stressed out so they get an abbreviated acclimation time. :hilarious He may be shy for a few days so don't worry too much if you don't see him for a few days. Hopefully Gary will provide lots of personality to your tank once he is comfortable.

My Jaw is usual half way out of his hole hovering as he gives me the hairy eyeball. Mostly only comes all the way out to eat. All of my gobies are out on the rocks and sand bed quite frequently but 2 out of 3 are paired with a shrimp.....
Does Gary have visible blue spots? I LOVE the blue spots on YWG's. Can't wait to see some pics!

Hi fishmamma!!
I did do a full acclimation, and he was fine. Very active little guy though. He's so cute!!
Today he's out and about. He ate great for supper, and has set up housekeeping in a little rock cave in the front of the tank...whew. He is out and about checking out the barnacles though, so I still have hope that he'll at least visit there once in a while. He has beautiful blue spots. I'm very excited!!
Here are some pics I got of him after he ate tonight.

For what it's worth, I have a CBS along with a Pistol Shrimp/Yellow Watchman Goby in a 29 gal tank - it really hasn't been a problem (Peppermint shrimp are another matter...)
I think it's because the pistol shrimp and goby basically live in burrowed-out areas in the sand bed, while the CBS hangs upside down amongst the rocks. It probably also helps that I make sure the CBS gets a good chunk of food regularly (I was getting tired of buying more Peppermints)

I wish my pistol shrimp and goby would hook up. I haven't heard the shrimp pop in awhile so I am not so sure he is still alive. I think he is since his cave will get some rocks coveriung it's hole and later it looks like the rocks have been pushed out (actually it's a few pieces of crushed coral that I missed when changing to sand). I have another pistol on order. I also put in a blue banded and golden banded shrimp and haven't seen them either. The cleaner and peppermint shrimps are doing well so I don't know what's up with the banded shrimps. There is alot of places for the to hide so I hope that is what's going on.

Hmmmm...
He's been just clinging to the glass since I got home. Do you think he's still just trying to get comfy? He ate when I fed everybody, but just a very little bit. He's breathing normally from what I can see...I hope he's okay.
I'll let you know more when I do.
