I've got a problem!!! Amm and nitrite are up!!!!! 0.5 for both!!!! It must be the rock. I'm going to do a 25% water change tonight.

You might want to do 30-40%...you still have fish right? ALso do you have amquel+ or Prime...that stuff does not get rid of the ammonia, but it makes it less toxic for the fish

I don't have amquel... figured I didn't need it. All of the fish stores around here are already closed (I called them all) so i can't pick up any until tomorrow.
I tested the water this morning and both amm and trite were 0.5.... just tested again and both were 0.25. I'm still going to do a water change. I think I'm going to vacuum the sand tonight also. It needs a good vacuum.

Maybe I just had a mini-cycle and I'm catching the back end of it.
Mixing salt right now.. RO is a cheap one so I'm watching it drip into a white 5g water jug.

Did the water change, ammonia at 0 now, nitrite still at 0.25, but nitrates used to be 10 now at 0??? I think it's because I added a second HOB and put chaeto in it. Been running the chaeto for the last few days.
Chemi-pure is working perfectly - the water is crystal clear.
My clown got ich. He was looking OK the last few days but this morning didn't look too good. I gave him a 3 minute RO dip and was AMAZED at what it did for him. ALL of the ich spots were gone. His skin still looked blotchy, probably from the ich, but there were no spots at all. he's looking better, hiding inside the rocks... it probably shocked him a little.
I guess the fresh garlic didn't help. I'm going to start soaking the GVH Vitamin soak today. I know that's helped my fish with ich in the past... builds up their immune system. We'll see how that goes.

I know - it's not good. I'm waiting for my RO to get another 5 gallons out. It's at 2 gallons. Then I need to mix the salt and let it sit for a little while. I'll probably do the water change tonight after work.
Overall I'm very pleased with my setup.... except I might get a 2.5g and use it as a legitimate refugium.
I might also get a second 2.5g to use as a dipping/bathing station for new corals/fish. Most likely just corals though, as I don't think I'll be adding anymore fish for a while... I think i may get rid of the chromis... they just don't do anything for me.
What would be a good fish to add to a 20g that's vibrant, beautiful, and will be happy in such a small tank. I was thinking a sixline, which I've had before, but he'd have to go last.
I really hate chromis though. I hate damsels more. They're like the rats of the trade.

My clown still isn't doing good. I tried feeding him twice today. He'd approach the food, then swim away. Is that normal for sick fishes? Physically he looks a lot better... and he's nice and fat so I'm hoping that will help him pull through.

Nope, I didn't use the detoxifier. I checked the levels the next day and everything was at zero. I think it might have something to do with my expired roti-feast and phyto-feast. Not sure. All is well now though, as far as levels go.
My clown started eating again... the first day it was a few bites, two days ago it was twice as much. Now he's swimming around again, looking a lot better, and life is back to normal. He's still a little pale, but I'm confident he'll improve.
I'm debating about where to upgrade from my PC's...

....Help!

Depending on what you want to keep...you can go with t-5's...that's what I got for my 29g...the Sundial T-5HO...and I have been told I could keep anything

Ever since I got the chemi-pure, I can't keep my pH up... I've NEVER had problems with my pH as long as I've been keeping saltwater fish. Chemi-pure does promote that it keeps the ph levels at 8.2 but it's been a constant 7.8. If I kept my pH at 7.8, would it keep everyone happy?

I don't know what you have in the tank now, but you need to acclimate the light to your tank....Don't just stick it on there and turn it on..LOL...

How does that work??
well you can do it a couple of ways...one is to put some type of screen over the tank, and every few days remove a layer...I tried that..LOL...The screen melted under my 250w MH lights
ORRRR...You can start using them gradually...2 hours for a few days..3 hrs for a few days...etc...until you have them on how you want them
Should take a couple of weeks total
