Sooooooo.... I like vanilla, yellow, chocolate and strawberry cakes. I know a couple of basic, basic recipes, but I don't have any really good ones. Would anyone like to share?

Yes, you serve it in the pan. We use a glass pyrex on to cook it in. You eat in hot or cooled, but it's extra yummy warm. You can even feel it clogging your arteries.

Ingredients
2 cups (500 mL) sugar
4 eggs
2-1/2 cups (625 mL) all-purpose flour
1 cup (250 mL) milk
3/4 cup (175 mL) vegetable oil
2-1/4 teaspoons (11 mL) baking powder
1 teaspoon (5 mL) vanilla
Cooking Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Line two 9-inch (23-cm) round cake pans or one 9x13-inch (23 x 33 cm) rectangular baking pan with parchment paper. Grease the paper and the sides of the pan well.
In a large mixing bowl, with an electric mixer, beat sugar and eggs together until slightly thickened, about 1 minute. Add flour, milk, oil, baking powder, and vanilla and beat for another minute, just until the batter is smooth and creamy. Don't overbeat. Pour batter into the prepared baking pan(s).
Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes or until the tops are golden and a toothpick poked into the center of the layer comes out clean. (A single rectangular pan will take longer to bake than two round ones.) Loosen the sides of the cake from the pan with a thin knife, then turn out onto a rack and peel off the paper. Let cool completely before covering with frosting, if desired.
Servings: Two 9-inch (23-cm) round layers, or one 9- x 13-inch (23 x 33 cm) rectangular cake.

Man, I would love to get that recipe from you! My wife and I are baking cakes and trying out recipes right now. We're trying to get the whole thing down so that we can start baking some serious cakes for people :D

OK.... apparently my copy is MIA....I'll get it from my mom tomorrow. But I do have a Banana Cake recipe that's really yummy too.
2 eggs
2 1/4 C. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 C. sugar
1 1/2 t. baking powder
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1 C. mashed ripe banana(about 3)
3/4 C. buttermilk or sour milk
1/2 C. shortening
1 t. vanilla
Allow eggs to stand at room temp for 30 mins. Grease and lightly flour two 8 or 9 inch round cake pans or grease one 13x9x2 inch baking pan. Set aside.
Preheat oven to 350 degree F. In a large mixing bowl stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add banana, buttermilk, shortening and vanilla. Beat w/ an electric mixer on low speed until combined. Add eggs; beat on medium speed for 2 mins. Spread batter evenly into the prepared pan(s).
Bake for 25 to 30 mins for round pans, about 30 mins for 13x9x2 inch pan, or until a wooden toothpick inserted near center(s) comes out clean. Cool on wire racks for 10 mins. Remove cake layers from pans; cool thoroughly on racks. Or place 13x9x2 inch pan on wire rack; cool throughly. Frost with desired frosting.
I usually use a good buttercream or instead of adding vanilla get banana extract.

Please do. I didn't realize he was banned. But it's there for anyone to use and it's very delicious. I'm going to be making one in 8 days for my stepson's birthday.
Can't wait!
