I just got home there is nothing left but a little flesh, my clean up crew must have cleaned it off last night or today. I left before my lights came on this morning.

Sorry Reef!
stinks beyond belief. I know my cleanup crew and it only eats dead stuff I dont have any parasites. the only thing I can think of is that they werent fully healed before shipping and got a secondary infection from the nasty shipping water AKA shipping stress death. looking at the first pictures I posted the bodies look a little hazy but it doesnt look like anything serious. I know my water quality is spot on. If I could swear on here there would be a whole post of nothing but cusses. I am so pissed right now its not even funny.

I can understand 100% how you must feel. IMO though, no worries. Im sure I dont only speak for myself when I say this but IMO if they had any shot at all surviving there are prob only 4 people I would want to care for them and you are at the top of that list. Dont beat yourself up over it.

thanks guys, I am so damn bummed about the whole situation. I am going to talk to cowfish and see if we can get a replacement or no from the shipper because I cant see it being my tank, nothing else in my tank is doing poorly., it was overnighted so there should have been no problem. and everyone knows I was here to sign for the package.

reefkprZ, could have been an isopod. Do you have those ? i have never seen them eating a healthy zoanthid but the other night i was watching my tank with the red flashlight and i have a frag of palys i got in a shipment last week that wasnt doing so well, well i noticed they werent messing with the healthy ones but went right over to one that wasnt so healthy and pulled it right off the rubble. And ran off with it and seemed like they were eating it. Have you ever heard of such a thing ? I didnt know anything would eat zoanthids except those zoa spiders and sundial snails and those bad nudis. But it was not a healthy paly anyways so i wasnt worried about it. I say it was free lunch for the little guys. But i made sure i fed my tank when it happened so they wouldnt go for more. LOL.

well hopefully there can be a reshipment...but to be honest I've had some issues with the vendor that we went through...the guy who runs it is very kind and understanding..but unfortunately I have had just a few issues getting zoos to live(others amazing)...so hopefully no one is bitter from this or hold any resentment as it is bound to happen and sometimes there isn't much you can do to save a coral before its gone...hopefully a replacement is possible and get right back into it....but you shouldnt feel bad erick, not your fault, the rest of us will live

That was likely amphipods and/or copepods. They'll eat dead and dying flesh, so if this particular coral was dead or dying (even if you can't really tell right away), they'll go for it and clean it up.

i caught an email on my blackberry late last nite, and i was hoping that it wasnt what i was reading.
crash
and
burn.
erick, first and foremost
2. Everyone who participates understands they could lose their initial investment as a result of unforseen circumstances (tank crashes, shipping error, etc.) and agrees not to hold planner or grower or Saltwaterfish.com responsible for their lose
rules
2nd. i have contacted the vendor this morning, but i already know that he is on vacation this week. unless he checks his emails daily, i may not have an answer until the end of the week.
3rd. if any of you are in for the mauls / rainbows, they are from a different vendor.
seriously dood. dont sweat it. ---- happens.

That really is a bummer but I'm sure we all understand. Hopefully something could be worked out with the seller, but this sort of thing could happen in any of our tanks.... and likely more so in ours than yours.

i was able to contact the vendor.
this is the response i got...
Mike,
They opened up and died. That's a sign of improper acclimation. Those polyps were shocked.
Those were fragged 2 weeks ago. As you can see there's no glue was used on that frag. It was cut from the rock itself and nothing touched the polyps. Even if you cut that the day its being shipped, it will still be okay because the only section was cut is the rock not the polyps.
Too bad. I even gave you some extra polyps on those frags.
John
I know the vendor just about as much as i know reefkpz. I have an inkling to believe reef more than the vendor.
basically, from how i read this, he's saying that we are SOL.
sorry guys.

ehhh it happens... no biggy. Although I do laugh that they said they were improperly acclimated. I wonder what their recommended acclimation procedure is? I have never done anything more than temp acclimate and place in my tank.
No matter, win some, lose some. On too bigger and better things.
