Anyone ever thought of or tried automotive HID's for lighting?

The lights are hot, but not as i expected. I really cant believe how some of my coral has taken off! My green hairy mushrooms are HUGE! I literally have one the size of a small dinner plate! My leathers are also enjoying the light, but the LPS are not very happy. Haven't figured out why yet.

Anyone ever thought of or tried automotive HID's for lighting?

Want to talk about do or die? Got home 2 nights ago, and my less than 1 year old T5HO setup is completely dead.... How the &^%$ does that happen? Only 1 out of my 4 bulbs is lit, and it doesn't start reliably... Had to bump this in to overdrive. Went and took the headlights out of our spare...

Gonna try this tonight. Ive got a power supply to convert to 12v. Any PC one would work in a bind, but I have something specifically for it. Going to see if I can find some cheap headlight housings at the junk yard for testing purposes!

Anyone ever thought of or tried automotive HID's for lighting?

Was just thinking about this the other day, automotive HID's, any good over a reef tank? Currently running individually reflected T5's 4x54. Just bought the fixture a year or so ago, moved up from a single reflector nova 4x54. A lot brighter, but still missing that shimmer effect. HID's are...

    Suggestions, please!

The tomini tang is the koles cousin. Both eat algae off of rocks and walls, both have a very timid nature and are not really up front open water swimmers. Basicly the same fish minus coloration. I have a tomini my self, love the guy to peices.

Blue Throat Trigger in a reef??

Ive kept both a female and male(avitar) blue throat in my 90 reef with zero issue. Very docile, with such an AWESOME personality, both were like member of our family.

I know the blue dot ones are a one per tank. But have herd on several occasions of the yellowhead/pearlys being 2+ in a single tank.

    Jawfish?

Looking to get 1 or 2 of these guys of the yellowhead variety. These are a male/female type right? Not like clowns where they can change their ---? Can you tell the difference between males and females? Id like to get a "pair". Will they tolerate each other and burrow near each other even if...

    Looking to refresh the reef...

I wouldnt recomend moving the sand. Can cause a spike pretty easily. I ended up buying new sand, not live of course, its such a waste of money. Got the 90 setup with the new sand and water, pumps etc. Then once it was all going I moved about half of the rock from the 50 to the 90 and checked it...
