Great recommendations everyone. If I do have whatever illness is in my tank, how do I remove it? Another idea I had was adding a hob protein skimmer to the display tank. I imagine I would remove the regular filter that's already on the tank and replace it with the skimmer, correct?

Hi, I agree a quarantine is an excellent idea. Purchasing your fish from saltwaterfish.com also gives you a 14 day guarantee...worth it's weight in gold. If a fish survives 14 days, it should make it in the display... That way you are not taking such a big risk on losing the new fish. 10g or 20g...

I think I may need to start. It's so aggravating that I lose new fish. How long would you keep a fish in quarantine? Would I just put them in a tank with only water? No sand and no rock? Just a heater and do a couple water changes per week?

I actually just went to another LFS and omg it was amazing there...but that's besides the point. I had my water checked and this was their results: PH: 8.0 KH: 150 NH3: 0 NO2: 0 NO3: 0 Salinity: 1.025 I am feeding them a mixture of frozen brine shrimp, garlic marine flakes, and new life spectrum.

What size is your tank?  Does it have live rock, fish-only? What do you use for circulation within the tank? He was in an 80 gallon tank. The tank is live rock with fish only.

And also to add, he didn't seem to have any white spots on his body. He looked skinny and his skin seemed to be a little transparent in some areas.

He does sound like he is on his way out.  What are the water parameters in your tank?  What kind of tank is he in? Brine shrimp is a worthless food source with no real nutritional value so you shouldn't bother using it.  Or at least only occasionally use it. Do you notice anything else about...

I purchased a small yellow tang from my LFS last week. He's been eating but seemed to be on the thin side. I had fed him brine shrimp, garlic flakes, and seaweed. My water parameters are good and I do 20% water changes every week. Right now he's lying on the bottom of the tank with my scarlet...
