    you can use just about any type of light, i use just a 4500k swirly bulbs, but i here that people use submersable (sp) led's e with lots of success. By the way, i think you got a great deal on that sump, it looks really nice.

    i must say that the peppermint shrimp are a great buy. its not hugely noticable but the are at least 10 gone hear and there and ive only had them for 3 days

    yes you can change the bulbs for metal halides. and if your switching out bulbs, they are all pretty much the same brightness, so you would be switching it out for a different color temperature, or k (kelvin). this reflects how blue or yellow the bulb is. 6500k being yellow and 20000k being...

    all these things like xenia, chaeto and more live rock in the sump will HELP a little, but the only way to get your nitrates where o want them is DO MORE WATER CHANGes, more like 20% every week at least. This is really the best way to lower your nitrates.

    The rock doesn't need more light thank than. I have some energy saving bulb from home depot for my chaeto. It is 6500k. The only reason I have live rock in my sump is I got a great deal on 50 lbs ($150) so I put whatever extra rock I had in my sump. And yes, I'm sure an incandesent bulb...

    alright sounds good. the main reasons for a sump is to hide equipment (like skimmers, heaters, ect) and also to add more water volume giving you a bit more room for error when it comes to tank levels. i also have all my extra live rock in mine to add more biological filtration.
