How much invested in ur tank so far ?

Tunzes are the best powerheads around. My next addition will be a wavebox.

clams... are they hard to care for?

I believe the clams will require metal halide lights unless you have a very shallow tank.

How much invested in ur tank so far ?

I stopped worrying about the cost long ago. I realized its better to buy quality componets that work then go cheap and then have them break on you. I just spent $700 on 2 powerheads this weekend....yet I know my tank will benefit and so will I from seeing it flourish.

Nudibranch, Jumping fish, Overflows - A safty tip

I did not notice any reduction in flow. I bought the size 5 grid from the sewing section of the store. I only installed it on the sides, left the top open. At least once a day I see one of my lettuce slugs moving away from the overflow, obvious they would have been in the overflow if not for the...

Nudibranch, Jumping fish, Overflows - A safty tip

Thomas, Thanks for the tip. I got some of the small mesh from Hobby Lobby and installed it around overflow. The lettuce slugs have now remained in my DT for 2 days.

    Closed loop versus Tunze streams

I have a 125g 6ft tank that I would like to have plenty of water movement. I've narrowed my decision to two choices: Tunze Stream Kit TS24 or Oceans Motions 4-way with ~1/4hp external pump (~4000 gph/hr) Both options are similar in cost. The Tunze streams should be a much easier installation...

    Closed loop hole locations

I'm considering adding a closed loop with an oceans motions to my 125g. I've seen several pictures of others CL and it seems most have the holes in the sides around the midpoint of the vertical height or even some are in the tank bottom. These configurations seem to be prone to a leak draining...

Nudibranch, Jumping fish, Overflows - A safty tip

Great idea Thomas. I have two lettuce slugs and I have to retrieve them from my overflow almost daily. Have you been running this setup long? Have any problems with algea growing in the small grid and reducing flow?

    Lighting for acrylic tank

Not definite about the thickness, but close to 1/4 inch. Coach, what brand take hood do you have?

    Lighting for acrylic tank

I got a 125g acrylic tank that has an acrylic hood with built in acrylic flourescent light bulb holders. It has the ability to hold 4 bulbs, the previous owner only had 2 installed. I think they are NO, but I'm not sure. Since the tank top is not euro braced, would installing 4 VHO lights in the...

New tank plumbed to old tank

I want both tanks on a central sump and refuge. That way I only have one system to top off. Next year I plan to get a 300g tank at which point the contents of the 125 and 75 will be consolidated. I also thought having both tanks together would make for a system with a large water volume of...

New tank plumbed to old tank

Would it really need to cycle? If I keep it void of any life, just saltwater, I thought the current 75g system would eliminate tank cycling.

New tank plumbed to old tank

I am getting a 125g tank and I wanted to verify that plumbing it to my current 75g reef tank would not cause any problems. Would increasing the system volume by 125g cause any water parameter problems?

    Hungry Tang

I also feel like I overfeed, but my naso just seems thin and always hungry. He doesn't eat pellet of frozen shrimp, he just likes nori and flake food. I guess I will try making my own frozen food, since he just doesn't seem to be growing that fast compared to my other fish.
