    Is this normal?

The drain pulls a small quantity of air into the pipe, when it gets to the bottom of the pipe it "burps", this is part of the problem you discribed earlier in your orignal post. To position the end of the pipe above the water level you would have to lower the baffles which would lower the water...

    Moving Live Rocks

If you are going to take the rock out for a couple of days the best way would be to put the rock in a large container (new garbge can or small childs wading pool) with enough aquarium water to cover them. Add a couple of power heads for water movement, airstone and if needed a small heater...

    Is this normal?

Those baffles seem high to me. JMO, I would lower the baffle height about half the present level, then raise the pipe about 3 to 4 inches above the water line in the sump and add a "sock" to the pipe. Mobuy

    My clam just discharged something.....

Is it ejected? I can't tell from the photo. Is it still connected to the clam? If not scoop it out. Very strange, I really don't know what that is if it is just floating around in the tank. That is a crocea clam and should not be on the substrate, it is a rock boring clam..and should be high up...

Trouble Makers on The Bessage Boards

So, it can be difficult to convey the tone and purpose of a post on a message board. Then, as someone said, it is ultimately up to the reader to apply the tone of voice. I think that is where we run into a lot of problems; so many people are already on the defensive that they automatically...

    Is this normal?

Is the end of the tube below the water line in the sump? If it is raise it up and try the following. Try putting a fabric bag over the end of the tube. Most LFS sell them. It will stop the splashing and filter out any big stuff before it enters the sump. Moby

How long will ammonia spike last?

Hey Lazarus, I think the reason for the prolonged spike is you may have over done it with the sources for the ammonia. LR, LS, natural sea water and a dead shrimp may be more than you needed. Also you may want to take the shrimp out if you haven't already. The shrimp doesn't need to disolve or...

Trouble Makers on The Bessage Boards

Humanaity is blanketed by stale words Yikes! That is the problem with modern society. I write for a living and nothing throughout history have we found that can convey the human emotion or condition like a well written book. Shakespeare anyone? Right this minute I'm smiling while I write...

    Nitrates

I'm sorry, I wasn't giving you my full attention at the beginning of this post. (bird biting my ear!) A 25% water change will not get the nitrates down to zero and nanomantis is right you want a little nitrates as that a lot of different residents in your tank need small amounts. My nitrates...

    My clam just discharged something.....

Hard to tell from the photos, but are they coming from the bottom where the two halfs meet? If so this is normal. Like mussels, clams secret a hair like substance (byssal threads) in which they use to anchor themselves to rocks or other objects. :happyfish Moby

    purple lobster molting question

You know it just occured to me, we are assuming he hasn't molted. But if he stays hidden in enough rock he could have and you just weren't aware of it. Remember that molted exoskeleton is nutrious and they or others will eat it if left in the tank. Moby

    purple lobster molting question

How often do you see him? You could always sit up at night with a flashlight outfitted with a red lense and watch for him. Besides if you have never done this it is AMAZING how much stuff you see in an older tank that comes lurking out in the dark! Moby
