What metal halide fixture and how much more does it cost for your electric bill???

5 reason I don't worry about the cost of my MH. 1) I have a 5,000 watt hot water heater that runs longer during the day. 2) I have a pool pump that runs 8 hours a day 3) I have to run my central Air in Florida 4) I use FPL...so the cost is astronomical anyway 5) It is only 500 watts for 9-10...

Help! Cleaner wrasse picking at clams!

Hmmm. Wonder if he was actually picking parasites or algae off of the clam? Mine gorges himself along with my yellow tang when I add peice of algae to the tank. Maybe you can add the wrasse with the lights out and the clams shut and try to get him disinterested in the clam.

    Who knows the difference?

I wonder if the phosphates are up, because of the water changes. I would check your water before you mix it with salt. Also are you using RODI?

    UV Sterilizer question

I bought one a while back and never installed it. I changed mine to reef as well, added a refugium and unsure if it is worthwhile or even will be benificial. So hopefully somebody can answer this question, because it is sitting in the closet collecting dust.

    xenia help

I always double or triple check my readings when something doesn't add up. What kind of tester are you using? If it is plastic hydrometer I would toss it for a refractometer, especially with corals. When you did your water change, did you somehow disturb them? Sometimes when they are...

    Return From Fuge

Do you have space requirements behind your tank. If not you can buy an overflow or make one. THere are plenty of ideas floating around the net. I've seen one where they made an overflow out of PVC pipes. This will in time be covered with purple algae too.

    starting a fuge,need some help!

Bubble trap. As water falls it creates bubbles. The baffels stop the bubbles from getting back into your tank....they can do bad things to corals and stuff from what I hear.

    Blue tang vs Yellow tang

Depends upon the fish... Our yellow terrorized a reticuated butterfly for two days...even though everything points out to there shouldn't have been a problem. Bigger tanks are probably better as we had it in a 75.

Looks like your ruler is off center on a .75" Union. Or is it imported metric? Hmmm. But, I wouldn't waste my dough on plumbing parts at a fish store...

    Current SunPod Metal Halide

I have the 48" 2 x 250W I only had one problem with a blown bulb that the supplier replaced. My recommendation is to buy a replacement bulb just in case. THe bulbs have a 3 month warrenty on them, but I would take a chance to go without one, mine happened around labor day, so I went without...

    Xenia too much light?

I agree with touchy. I lapsed on my trace elements and my two xenias took a nose dive. Now I keep up with them and water changes and the one that barely survived is doing pretty well. It could be the change of light too, but I've moved mine around the tank quite a bit and it hadn't affected it...

    Selecon additive

Some are benifited with filter feeder type foods. You'll have to research which ones they are. I believe Mushrooms and some polyps are good for that.

    Adding a Baffle

It would have to be drained to add the baffles. Unless you built the baffel as a piece fit and you can slide it inside your sump, maybe with some tape (tube gasket) for sealing. The glues needed won't react well to the water

    Wanting to add a refugium!

I also agree. Much easier to start all over again as it is harder to rework something that is existing.

I just want to ask the question... why did you feel compelled to wear the gloves in the first place?

    Wanting to add a refugium!

That means puting it over your pumps would be ideal. Just put the pipes angled downward off your fuge to the return.

    Wanting to add a refugium!

I kind of built that same design as put up there. The problem I have is that you have a difficult time balancing flows, and as the water level in my sump drops, also drops output to the fuge, thus I loose suction on the pvc suction pipe and for some reason I don't believe that to be 100%...

    Dumb Startup Questions

Worst part is that you have to cure any PVC pipe changes for at least 2 hours and flush them first. Don't want to get into testing what works mode with your fishies waiting for freshly filtered water! That is the last time...as I was a greenback noob when I first started this Saltwater fish...
