    You have a leak it may ruin the carpet and rot pad underneath. Not only that, I don't know if the carpet will recover from the weight pressure on it for a long period of time. I never tested that. I would look at your carpet as disposable anyway as I doubt it lasts all that long anyway.

    Probably overheated your pump. Some pumps require water to keep them cool. I would definatly look at buying a replacement as it will probably fail sooner or later. Either it misshaped the housing or overheated the internal parts. If you would have had an external pump it might have melted...

    Don't look at it as duration. Mine had low nitrates for the first three months. The last two ahve been high. Since then I do weekly water changes and added a refuge with algae. I actually feed less now than I did earlier.
