first not great order from SWF

Rach4194, no offense, really. But his comments are not defendable. If it is part of his responsibility as moderator to listen/ monitor the communications on this forum (both good and bad) then he should maintain a certain degree of professionalism. Period. Especially if he is representing the...

first not great order from SWF

If that is not suitable then by all means establish your own on-line business and create better conditions and policys... NM reef, that was a little out of line don't you think? I understand that a times we all get frustrated with bad shipping experiences and even the (rare) occasion when the...

help with DIY closed loop for my 46 gallon

Heres what I have done in the past before I had a drilled tank. You can replace the second elbow on the inlet with a tee and place a threaded cap on it. Unscrew the cap, pour water into the pump, replace cap start pump. This will prime the pump. Just a suggestion. Moby

    diy hexagon stand

Sorry, real life intruded. You might consider garage sales, often folks are trying to get rid of old stuff that you could use. A good cabinet maker would charge as much if not more than a premade stand would cost at the LFS. But just because the tank is odd shaped doesn't mean the stand has to...

    diy hexagon stand

Well ryanhayes9, first I have to say I am impressed you have the DIY spirit a lot of of guys your age don't seem to have these days. I'm glad you are looking at options for making a stand for your aquarium. I have few concerns though with your cinder block idea. The first one is it might be a...

    Ton o' Questions...Opinions Wanted

Prizm skimmers suck. They have a very bad rep. I agree, just another gimmick type device that does not deliver. I have never had one but my fish buddy tried it and it was a joke. Moby

    225 with nano fish

I'm not 100% sure about the firefish schooling, I personnally have never seen them do it. But that doesn't mean they won't. If you are going to go the the chromis route, I don't believe they will mix. You would at best end up with each type forming their own school. For cardinals I have five and...

    diy hexagon stand

Are you looking to build one yourself or just want to know where to find one premade? If you are a DIY kind of guy then the next qeustion is do you have any cabinet making experience? I only ask because a hex stand is pretty challenging, lots of angles and mitered corners. This is fairly...

    Live rock quality

Hikari, you said you live in the desert.....Arizona? I know some places in AZ that have some fairly good deals, but on line is probably going to be the cheapest, but of course you don't see it before you buy so you can't pick the pieces you want. Moby

    Cracked Tank

You guys have MUCH bigger coconuts than I have. I would be sleepless at night worrying that I'd wake up to a tsunami in the living room! I think the safe thing would be bite the bullet and get a new tank or maybe you could find one cheap in the paper, I see them here all the time. Sorry to...

    Drilling - Using Rotozip?

Thanks indymatt for the details, I think this is a great idea! I was just worried that folks would get hurt (or ruin their aquarium) because they did not fully understand how you did this. Some of us have more skills for this sort of thing than others and if not careful things can go wrong...

    Small octopus with big fish

The only one I ever had "ink" was when I opened the bag he was shipped in. I agree a large tank is not necessary, but the water quality does need to be darn near perfect. They have very sensitive skin membranes and become easily stressed by poor quality water. Unlike other fish they are...

    Drilling - Using Rotozip?

I can't help myself.... I HAVE to state the obvious, unless the power tool is battery powered PLEASE be extremely careful mixing electricity with water!!!!!!! I would hate to hear a horror story of how you electricuted yourself or anyone around you. Sorry the dad in me kicked in and I couldn't...

    Small octopus with big fish

It is always a bummer to hear folks tell you bad news about some fish you would REALLY love to have. The natural reaction is to keep asking until someone says"go for it, it can be done." In this instance though the bad news is that unless you keep it in a species tank alone, it will eat anything...

    225 with nano fish

Cardinal fish school very well and are extremely peaceful. Also if you want you could try saltwater cats, only possible problem is they pair off into breeders when mature. Of course the chromis and anthias school very well. Moby

    Bonnethead Sharks (need one more)

Banded, bamboo or catseye do well in captivity, but remember they will eventually be about 3 feet in length. So plan accordingly. Well, I feel like a silly ass! I did not realize you were the guy with the 2700 gallon tank! I guess you planned accordingly! BTW, any clues as to how you did that...

    ? about closed loop system

Something you might want to consider is on the second elbow on the intake, replace with a tee with a threaded cap. This will allow you to prime the pump by taking the cap off and pouring water down to the pump directly. Once the pipe is full, put the cap back on and start the pump. Also it is...
