Yes, but according to the instructions it attaches to the needlewheel pump which is under water. The tube does not fill with water, only the portion that is under water (a couple of inches).

mine did something very similar- after proper acclimation and time in tank he got back to normal color. They are a "skittish" species, and will take awhile to become more comfortable in their new surroundings.
