    rinsing biological media

hopefully it did not kill them all off and that there are enough bacteria in in my rock and substrate that this mistake will not cause a minicycle? Are their any preventitive measures that I should take?

    rinsing biological media

I just rinsed out my cannister filter for the first time (FLuval 305). I was starting to see a small rise in trates, and had not ever rinsed rinsed it (it has been going for 6 weeks). I watched the instructional video that came with it, and followed the instructions. I rinsed the media...

    and they came tumbling down

I have had a 46 gal fowlr going for several weeks now. The rock has been very stable, until yesterday. I added two large turbo snails, yesterday afternoon. Needless to say, they found a way to make the relatively stable rock, unstable. I woke up this morning and my aquascaping had...

    Walmart water

I believe WM uses a 3rd party vendor for their water machines. I would not be surprised if different regions use differenct vendors. Although relatively new, I have never had a problem with the RO from our local WM

    Clowns Acting wierd

You likely did not start your cycle until the addition of the fish. You need something biological (food, waste, otehr decaying bio matter, etc). Your fish are probably extremely stresseed from high ammonia levels and the extremely hot temp. The clowns are fairly hardy, and may weather this...

    Open vs closed top

I have a 46gal fowlr. I run a Fluval 305 and have a powerhead. Combined, these two provide about 12x/hour water flow. All levels have tested fine (tested them at home and confirmed by good LFS). My live stock includes 2 false percs, 1 foxface 1 toby puffer 12 small hermits All that being...

    Yellow tang fighting with Foxface

Although I am no expert, I have heard that this can happen when a foxface is introduced after a tang. The foxface is quite hardy, and from what I have read this behavior should cease within a day or two. Keep an eye out though.

    Safe water

I get my RO from Walmart. They have a unit there in the store. I bought a five gallon water cooler container for $11 and refill it for $1.58. They do sell it for about .68 in the gallon jugs.

Effect of clean-up crew on bio load

I what ways do shrimp, snails, and small hermits effect the bio load of a tank? I understand the effects of cleaning, but cam too large of a crew decrease the amount of fish that you can keep?

Use of rock found on beach

I found it off of a barrier island in NC. Most of it washed up after a storm. I have a new tank, just a few pounds of live rock and about the same of already dead "lace rock". The tank is still cycling, the ammonia levels started to drop before I left on vacation. I plan on having a fish...
