    break in period of skimmer

I have recently installed a Coralife Super skimmer to my 46 FOWLR. The instructions state "After the 'break-in' period turn the pump adjustment valve to the open position . . . ." How does one know when the break-in period is over? The instructions state 24-72 hours. Is there a sign (ie the...

yeah, I have an adjustment and no the bubbles are not clouding the water. You cannot see them unless you are up next to the tank. Thanks

    can microbubbles be problematic

I recently installed a Coralife Superskimmer on my 46 gal fowlr. I am using the HOB application. Despite the microbubble difuser, there are still some microbubbles in my tank. They do not really cloud the display, as they are barely noticible unless you are right in front of the tank. My...

    Too much at once ?

I would add the clean-up crew and then wait a week or so on the fish. Others have added the fish and then the clean-up crew and have had success as well. If you have a quarantine tank, you could order them all at the same time and put th efish in the QT tank.

Super Newbie ? about Frozen Foods

I use the marine combo for my 46. I use the saltwater 4-pack that contains marine cuisine, emerald entree, omega 3 brine, and squid. I cut off 1/3 or 1/4 of a cube and let it thaw very slightly and then toss it in the tank. Every thing breaks up quite nicely with the circulation (with the...

    LR or No LR??

I went rock (again more base than live) and now have a skimmer oredered after my tank has been going for 2 months.

    LR or No LR??

I think the live rock is a very good idea as well. It greatly improves the biological filtration, in addition to providing grazing/hiding for your fish. To save money- as you are doing a fish only tank, you could get away with a few live rocks and more base rock. The base rock is much less...

    white crystals in tank

no I did not., and I know that this is something that I eventually need to do. This is my stupid way of mixing the water- I mix the water in a 5 gallon water cooler jug and roll it around the floor and shake it several times during tthe day- I know a power head would be much better, and I...

Thanks, dmjordan- Yes I do have livestock- a small foxface, a toby puffer, a firefish and two false percs. I also have 8-10 hermits and 2 turbos. n2theblue- thanks for the advice. I think I will adopt that or a similar strategy after the next water change. 30 hours after the mishap and...

    rinsing biological media

It has been about 24hrs since my rinsing blunder, and there has been no increase in ammonia whatsoever. Still reading .00. DO you think I am ok? I have yet to do my water change. I will do it later today when my 19mo old is napping. She usually adds an extra degree of difficulty to the...

    rinsing biological media

should I decrease feeding? or something similar? I have a regular 10% water change planned for tomorrow- should I go ahead with that? If I do, maybe I should not sweep the substrate as I usually do to preserve any bacteria there. Thanks for all your input.
