The other thing with your LFS is how did they test the water? Did they use the quick strips or did they use test tubes? I have one pet store test my water this was a name brand store and they claimed my water was perfect ( Used the Test Strips). Then I had a local Salt water store test my water...
The biggest thing I am finding out about protein skimmers is you get what you pay for. I now know why people will spend $200+ on one. If I ever do upgrade I will be looking probably up in that price range if not higher.
You might get a way with it in a smaller tank, but than that would be the only thing I would have in the tank. I think one of the reason for such a big tank is to give your fish room to stay away from the Eel. I know they are quick and if you don't keep them well fed they will take care of that...
Well I do know the the Snowflake will eat any small fish and sometimes inverts, so your tank might thin itself out after you get the eel.
They say 2" per gallon with a good filter and high water flow. With a 46 gallon you should be able to have 23" of fish, but I would not max it out, because...
First thing I would do is test your water. Make sure your nitrate, nitrites, Ammonia, salinity and PH are all OK. It sound like something with the water is not right.
U might want to try a 25% water change, but don't do more then that.
I know on my SeaClone 150 it has an air valve that you have to adjust in order to make that go away. Maybe your skimmer has the same type of thing. The other thing is do you use a water conditioner with a slime coat? That will cause some problems too with a skimmer.
Ya the 4400HH at zero is 980 and at three feet it is around 750 GPH. I am just trying to figure out how much more I need to add with power heads.
So all I got right now is the pump for my sump. Now I trying to figure out how many power heads extra I need?
Ok this is something that I can never find anything on. What is the required water flow in a Saltwater tank. I have a 55 gallon and also have an Quiet One Pumps 4000HH, which at 3 feet it suppose to have a output of 750 GPH.
Is this over kill , the right enough or not enough?
I am lucky there my wife is to scared to touch anything dead in the fish tank, so I am lucky there. The good thing is she tells me as soon as I walk through the door :)
But I am probably going to get an Emerald Crab I think they look cool.
So I think I read a different post is everyone in agreement that it goes NO, PC, VHO, HO (t-5), MH from worst to best. The biggest thing I am worried about VHO is the Heat, but I run them till they die and switch I think over to t-5's
LED I would think you would need a lot to get the same amount of light as other bulbs types. Plus would LED be able to run at the proper spectrum needed for corals?
I just wish they would publish the lumens of each bulb that way you can tell what output you will get with each bulb.
Well this mean after I use up my VHO I might be switching to HO's or unless I can figure out how to dim a Icecap 660 :) cheaply.
