Should I do a water change?

About four months ago I changed from CC to DSB. I have only done one water change(25%) since then. My tank is crystal clear and my fish are doing very well. I have very llittle if any algea growth, as a matter of fact, most of the algea exept for coralline has gone away. Unfortunatly, some of my...

    Dsb Grrreeaat!!

After a few years of using CC in my tank and wasting a lot of time vaccuming the build up of dirt and wasted food, I decided to switch to a DSB 5+". What a difference! I switched about three months ago, and at first I thought I had made a mistake. I had several algea blooms and diatoms appeared...

    Water Changes

I faithfully did a 25% water change every four weeks when I had CC in my tank. It was easy to tell when it was needed because algea would start to build up and diatoms appeared in the bottom. Since I changed to DSB 5"+about four months ago, the tank has been so crystal clear, and the fish have...

    Who can ID this snail?

I checked the U-Build It area and there is no pic of it. It is approximately 1/4" round, grayish in color with some darker lines running lengthwise. It is a basic cone and you cannot see a front or rear to it. It reminds me of the small barnicles you see attached to the rocks on the beach. I...

    Who can ID this snail?

I would take a picture but it is kind of small. I believe it is a hitchhicker and it is cone shape with a small orifice on the top. It is not the fastest snail I have seen but cleans the dead corals to the bone. It is very hard to remove from wherever it attaches. I wouldn't mind having a dozen...

    The healing power of fish

I am amazed at the rapid healing of a fish's wound. Something in my tank took a bite the size of half a dime from one of the fins of may sailfin tang. Today, one week later, it is hardly noticeable. It seemed to have regenerated the missing piece. I am sure there is research in the medical...

    Is my tank over stocked

It's a 6' tank and the tangs seem to be doing ok. The first tang I bought was the yellow but he was small when I intruduced my hippo. The sailfin was the last, but I first moved my yellow tang to a QT to let the sailfin take charge of the 120 gal. They all seem to get along OK most of the time...

    Is my tank over stocked

Everything seems to be running ok in my 120 Gal FOWLR but as I read what many of you have I wonder if I am above the limit of what my tank can handle. If I am over stocked, what do you recommend moving out? 120 Gal FOWLR 1 Yellow tang 1 Blue tang 1 Sailfin tang 3 gree chromis 1 cleaner...

HELP I was stabbed by my fish

I guess I was mistaken also. When I said " I got stabbed by my blue tang" I was referring to my hippo. I 've always called it a blue tang. By the way the pain has subsided a lot but it lasted a good three hours. I had my hand in ice water and could not take it out because of the pain. It has...

    Help with lights

I asked a few weeks ago for help in trying to slow down the growth of algea in my tank. I had just switched from CC to DSB and it was followed a series of algea blooms which my cleaning crew could not handle. When asked the question to how long I had my lights on, I said 12 hours. I received a...

How long should I leave the lighting on??

Now I am really confused. I had some problems with algea blooms in my tank and asked for help here. I was asked how long I had my lights on and my answer was 12 hours. Without hesitation I had a series of repliestelling me to shorten the time to eight hours which I did. My algea problem is gone...
