PLEASE tell me my DSB idea will work!!

ok so maybe ill try that, just adding a couple cups every other day or so. should i spread it out or should i concentrate it in one area every time? and how do i go about getting it to the bottom of my tank without causing a huge sandstorm?

PLEASE tell me my DSB idea will work!!

thats a decent idea too. but what im talking about is emptying my tank, then adding all the sand, then filling it back up. After all the sand has cleared, ill add the lr and fish inverts back with the water. keeping all the old water for fishs safety.

PLEASE tell me my DSB idea will work!!

Ok to start out, my 30 gallon wasnt researched too thoroughly before i jumped in. im using about a 2 inch sand bed, and my nitrates will not go below 20-25 even with weekly %20 water changes. I decided to go ahead and get this over with before i finish stocking my tank. My PLAN is to get another...

im having the same problem. 30 gallon with 1 clownfish, 1 yellowtail damsel, 5 blue claw hermit crabs, 1 peppermint shrimp, 1 coral banded shrimp. I do 20 percent weekly water changes and can never get my nitrates below 25. Im going to buy another bag of argonite and pull all my live rock out...

how to fix a leaky tank

Believe me, its a pita. Dont take apart the trim at all, its structural for the tank. If you happen to put it together wrong or weaker than origional then it could fail and you could end up with a couple chopped up fingers like me. The way i would go about doing this is fill the tank up till you...

Our 55 Gallon Fish Only Tank (New to the Hobby)

Im half tempted to tell you your tank has already cycled.. by the diotom blooms and the fact that the shrimp pretty much deteriorated. But if you are testing your water and never saw a spike, you cant be sure. i would tell you to add a couple larger peices of shrimp in some pantyhose and test...

    Cutest Blenny Picture!

I really want a LMB but im not sure if he would survive in my tank. Can anybody tell me if he will live alongside a coral banded shrimp, a peppermint shrimp, 5 hermit crabs, a yellow tail damsel, and a clownfish all in a 4 month old 30 gallon? Lots of rocks for him to hide in, almost 60 pounds...

Someone explain what i can keep with the lights i have

well im surfing here over my phone right now, but ill try that later. what about l.e.d. lights? they are cheap and give off a lot of light, without alot of heat. any thoughts on those?

when can i ditch my mechanical filtration?

yeah well i was considering this because in a 30 gallon, having two powerheads, a heater, and a filter looks cluttered and unnatural. maybe someday ill put a real stand under it and add a sump/refugium. and since this is my first saltwater tank, im pretty sure i wont be able to help myself and...

when can i ditch my mechanical filtration?

only about 4 months now. 40 pounds of base rock got added a couple days ago, so i know its way too soon to be thinking about this. but i was also wondering about if it is a problem not having a sump/refugium or a skimmer. basically later on down the line i want to run 100 bio filter. no skimmer...

when can i ditch my mechanical filtration?

just a quick qeustion, when can i get rid of my mechanical filtration? if i have 56 pounds of live/base rock in my 30 gallon tank, and enough flow to keep up the 20x rate, is it ok to not even have a mechanical filter?
