    bulb watts

Mh is just a term used to describe a bulb / tube that generates wavelengths of light. (check this thread about wavelength and kelvin: https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/204927/lighting ) You can use a 8000k light and then get either a 10000k or 18000k(better known as the 50/50) and run that at...

    skimmer - Too much bubbles..

You want the water to cascade into the tank. This helps airate the water and put oxygen in for the livestock. As long as your not getting 'foam' floating back into the tank its no worth worrying about.

    skimmer

As long as it removes water from the tank and returns it. you cant really go wrong as long as you setup good filter media. I got a relativly cheap skimmer and added some extra filter media to assist with the filtration. (cant spell it but its called something like 'laytag').

    Damsel chases my cat!

Need a VidCam for this!. I have a black Damsel in my tank. I have a FAT (15Lbs) black and white cat. The Damsel just ignores this cat. I also have a 'fat' (9Lbs) small cat which is all black. I could be wrong, but the Damsel is giving this cat the 'Evil eye'!. It seems to follow the cat around...

Lights on during tank cycle with Live Rock?

Strong light will aid in the production of Algee. Good or bad depending on your aim. I just left my 8000k light running in Daytime mode (its on an auto timer) during the cycle. Cant hurt. Not like 8000k is gonna make any photosynt get out of hand... LOL Once my whole Cycle is over and my...

    how to rate an overflow?

Man, you forgot the Mass dude. You need to figure in the Mass of the moon, Oh, and also figure in any upcomming conjunctions. Knowing the density of the water wouldnt help either. If your using RO it has a higher density than tap water... :-)) (actualy i suck at math according to my high school...

You can add a bag of live rock and some live sand to the mix. The organisms found in those will make a new home quickly in the CC.

    how to rate an overflow?

what do you mean?. If you have a syphon system on your tank, you can just multiply the depths involved and divide by 231 (231 Inches per Gallon). For example. A syphon tube reaches 3 inches into a tank that 38" wide and 20" deep. Find the SqInches 38x20x3. 3040 total. Divide that by 231 to get...

    Damsels and Outback....

Naw, I have no doubt that things will be absolutly fine. The Live Rock has been in there since Day 1 and is doing fine... Theres more than one (or five) ways to cycle a tank. I just decided to take the more unconventional route. :-)

    Damsels and Outback....

Day 6 of my tank. I bought myself a 50/50 lamp and a full test kit from ***** for a reasonable price. Today I did a full spectrum test of the water. Happy me. No3 is at 15ppm No2 is at .5ppm (both dropping slowly) Alk is about 325 Ph is about 8.6 Ammonia is dropping like a stone. It spiked to...

    Does Ammonia always spike?

car jack and skateboard?. that sould move it fine! LOL Cycle and other bio enhancers are great, but you can overdose with them. So try to be careful with it. After every water change and I was advised 'when you add a fish put a very small dose of cycle in too'.

newbie with 90g set up - can i add fish now ?

Yea. the tank has to Cycle.. You have another few days to go yet my friend. Check your Ammonia levels and post them here. Someone will let you know if the tank is ready for fish. Trust me, dont add fish too soon or you could possibly kill them.

    skimmer

Right. one of the LFS near me are a little bit stupid. The run sumps like you... The drain from the tank is gravity feed, the return is pumped. When the hurricains came, all 9 of their tanks syphoned out and their Sumps are the usual sumps you see in the pet stores. But the drain in their...

    can funky air kill fish?

If you cant breath due to lack of Oxygen, then yes the fishies could be in perril. If you cant breath because you cant stand the smell, then the fishies are probably okay. your pobably fine if you just crack the windows and let the room air out.

    can funky air kill fish?

Any kind of oxygen deprevation will effect a tank. We usualy asphyxiate when gas leaks, the lack of oxygen isnt always knoticible unnfortunatly. If you have a problem breathing. Its possibly safe to say that the lack of oxygen could effect the levels in the tank. In some cases, the 'bubbles'...

    can funky air kill fish?

your fish should be fine man. As long as there is Oxygen adn those other happy molocules in the air, all is well. Smells arnt going to bother your fish much, unless they spend a lot of time at the surface of the water smelling the air....

    Does Ammonia always spike?

Cycle is wonderful stuff. Ill keep using it once my tank is established. But I might back off on the dosage and monitor the levels for a while. I dont want to end up 'relying' on it to keep things happy.
