I'm always leary of buying brands that I don't know about. I've heard people recommend HelloLights before, but why are they so cheap? The same IceCap setup would cost $350+. What gives? What are you getting with the IceCap that you wouldn't get with a system such as this one?
Oh, and about the canopy...I have a canopy already that I plan on retrofitting the VHO's into. When it comes time to add the MH, I'll probably build a new one that has more room in it.
One of my favorite creatures is the derasa clam. From what I understand, they like ALOT of light and they also need to be at the bottom of the tank. Correct? I want to make sure I have at least enough light to sustain this one. I think I've decided to go with the 660 IceCap running 4 VHO's...
The only problem with that is that it's not very cost efficient. The 660 retrofit alone is $350. If I go with MH on top of that, I'll be adding another $250. I was hoping PC's would get the job done to help the wallet out. Do you guys think that PC is inufficient for a 90 gallon?
Check out this site. Anyone ever purchased from here?

Ok, after seriously considering my lighting options for my 90 gallon tank, I've narrowed it down to this:
1. IceCap 660 running 4 VHOs = 440 total watts
2. 2-55w PC Bright Kits w/ 2-175w MH = 460 total watts
3. 4-55w PC Bright Kits w/ 1-175w MH = 395 total watts
4. 6-55w PC Bright Kits = 330...
For the record, I have a 90 gallon All Glass that I've had for 5 years now with no problems whatsoever. <img src="graemlins//silly.gif" border="0" alt="[silly]" />
This site has step-by-step instructions on how to make your very own refugium very inexpensively.

My tank is cycled. I've just recently been adding LR, though. The LR I buy is already cured, so the pieces I buy here and there shouldn't throw my tank into another cycle.
Another question. I'm adding to my tank (as far as LR goes) incrementally as I get the money to. Which of these fish could be added while my tank is still in the developing stages, i.e. they don't need a mature system with lots of LR. I currently have 30 lbs of LR and a 4 inch DSB. Thanks again.
Ok, after much research I've compiled a list of fish that I want to keep in my 90 gal reef. I need everyone's input. This may be too many fish for my tank, not sure. If so, I would love suggestions on which fish to ditch. Thanks for your help everyone.
Green Chromis (2, already in there)...
By the way, here's a great site that calculates how many pounds of sand you need for a desired depth in your tank:

I like Predator's advice. If I were you I'd start off with a few green chromises. They're attractive, inexpensive, hardy, easy to keep/feed, low on your bio-load, they school, and are reef safe. What more could you want out of your first fish? :)
