    URGENT: brown growth appears suddenly

It's 85 gallons. Been set up about 2-3 weeks, I have a prism 100gal filter and a over-hanging carbon filter from Emperor I believe. The tank has a coral beauty angelfish, 3 domino damsels, and 3 blue-green chromis. I have two penguin 660s. It's tap water with Seachem Prime. I think it's...

    URGENT: brown growth appears suddenly

nitrate tested to around 10-20 ppm which is high, but shouldn't lead to a sudden bloom like this, correct?

    URGENT: brown growth appears suddenly

I just got a new coral beauty angel yesterday. Today, I wake up and there's brown spots all over my live rock and live sand. I've never seen it before and appeared within about 12 hours. I'm about to check nitrate levels and phosphate levels, but I have no idea what it is. I'm uploading...

    85 gallon tank

My tank is functioning swimmingly so far. I've added 3 blue-green chromis and 3 domino damsels. Ammonia and nitrite is around 0. Nitrates is around 5ppm and dropping. I'm ready for some more interesting life forms now. I want an eel, either a banded moray, or a snowflake. Something cheep...

    eel safe?

I have a nitrate of around 5ppm, my tank's been balancing and getting a cycle done for about a week, my temp is 79, and my salinity is 1.024. Am I ready for a snowflake? Last checked, I had no ammonia or nitrites.

While not one of the epic tanks, my first tank, 67 gallons

That's the latest update with rock and sand. The live rock is actually dead, sat around in a garage for way too long. But I added Bio-Metra and live sand, so it should stabalize out. I hope it all grows well. My salinity is pretty high currently. I think my reader might be off. I read it...

    protein skimmer question

also, would it be bad for me to turn the skimmer off overnight? This tank was just started and I just added bio-spira and live sand. I've been draining the skimmer basin and I don't want to be throwing out a ton of key things.

    protein skimmer question

my skimmer has been leaking lately. I just added salt and then sand, so there's a lot of stuff around the water. I've turned down the water flow in and that seems to fix the problem, but is that how it should normally be? Or should it be flowing at full power?

While not one of the epic tanks, my first tank, 67 gallons

I now have two working pumps with a third on the way and a tank full of salted water. As soon as this stuff settles in and the temperature drops down a little (had a run-in with a faulty heater pumping the temp up to 85), live rock and live sand will be moving in for a stay.

While not one of the epic tanks, my first tank, 67 gallons

just remeasured. It's 45x18x24. That'd make it 85 gallons. I have two thermometers in it right now getting the temperature to 76F, and then once it hits there, I'm draining out about ten gallons of water and adding salt. When it clears, in goes live rock and live sand.

interesting. According to all gallon calculators I tried, this tank is actually 105 gallons. That opens up even more dimensions for what I want to do with it.

While not one of the epic tanks, my first tank, 67 gallons

I've been wanting a salt water tank for about a year but, alas, I'm a poor, starving college student who doesn't have ~$1.5k start-up. However, I was searching craigslist last week and found a 67 gallon tank with two skimmers, a rear-hanging filter, two heaters, two pumps, salt, 40 gallons of...

    1 in 50 million lobster

I'm sure if you follow google news or something, you can track where it heads. Here's some links on it. http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2006/...bster-red.html Tulk is donating the lobster to the marine interpretation centre in Terra Nova National Park, which includes observation tanks that can be...

Just bought tank, in process of cleaning used parts

Anything specific I should use to get all the skimmers and such looking close to new? I was told white vinegar and water. Is there a percentage mixture I should use? This glass is haggard and it's taking forever to get clean. Is there anything else I can use? Same goes for all the pumps and...
