I have a 40 gallon system II, and was wondering if there was a different way of setting up the filtration system. Can I remove the bioballs from the back and put something else? I use a bakpak protein skimmer as well, but I can't seem to get my tank as clear as I want to.

I didn't measure all the stuff myself, but did take a sample to my fishstore, and found out that my ammonia was elevated, but everything else was okay. So, they suggested using some Cycle to see if it will clear in a few days or so. That's what I'm trying. Any other suggestions?
