    What would you suggest?

People are always asking "what do you suggest I stock my tank with." Well, I've been in the hobby for 15 years (granted out of it for the last two, and have forgotten quite a bit) and I know in general which fish I want, and which I don't want. What I want to know is, if you could only suggest...

I've spent about two more hours today researching FR. Salt seems to be a very common way of creating that "pouricity" mentioned earlier...Reefdaddy even mentioned using salt. My question is, how do you ad it to the cement? Surely you dont mix it in like you would gravel in quickcrete. I can see...

I'm like a 5 year old in a candy store with only $1.00 to spend....I Can't Make Up My Mind! My uneducated gut tells me that the LR will be better for the tank in the long run. My educated pocket book is screaming that it will not be better for him. On the topic of bacteria, I'm patient when it...

You think? If I can run the tank with no problem on a 250mh, then I'm all for it. I just thought there would be some stuff that I couldn't keep. At this point I don't have any intention of keeping an sps tank. I don't have the room or the money to invest in a calc reactor. I may keep a few of...

Yeah, its basic Math. I didn't think about that until after I had posted the question. Had a bit of a senior moment I guess....and I'm only 33. Oy-vey I think I have settled on a 400watt Ice Cap MH. If I install several fans into the canopy, I believe I can nullify the heat put off by the lights.

Tank looks good. Looks like the faux rock colored up just like any other rock. I do have one last question..At least I think its my last question. How does the DIY rock effect the cycle time. If its basically organically sterile, where does the bacteria come from that would complete the cycle...

    75 Gallon Update, New Pics

Love the Zoos! I'm so Jealous. I've been out of the hobby for 2 years, and am starting over. Zoo's are one of my top 5 choices for my new tank!

Well, I have decided that I am definitely going to at least try my hand at some test rocks. From what I have read, crushed oyster shells are the most common aggregate. I am also going to try out several different texture techniques such as pasta, cheeto's, and rock salt. If the rock turn out...

How does using plastic shavings, or acrylic shavings, make the rock more pourous? They don't melt away with the rock...That part has me confused. ReefDaddy..you said that you wouldn't use cheeto's...any reason? I thought it was pretty clever. The cheetos and spiral pasta would melt during the...

Lots of good info! My next question would be whether or not I can put a Halide in a canopy. I've always been told its a bad idea because of the heat. But, because of where the tank will be located, the lighting has to be in a canopy. I could put a couple of fans in, but i'm still not sure that...

so the two ice caps (4 each) give me a total of eight, and then overdrive them. I have heard of overdriving bulbs, but have no idea how to do that. Also, how much am I looking at for the Ice Cap ballast, and how much for the bulbs?

Okay, so its sounding more and more do'able. Have the two of you actually made rock for an aquarium? I've read that crushed oyster shells are the best thing to use in the mix, although, I love the idea of using the Cheeto's. I can see how you would really end up with some nice cavity's in the...

I've done about two hours worth of reading on DIY rock. It was something I was interested in when I set up my 175 bow front, but never really pursued. I've seen several threads on mixing, and some general talk on molding, but no real talk on the pro's and con's of using Faux rock. Obviously...
