    Grouper still not eating

Looks like a trip to the LFS tomorrow - I've used neons before, for feeding to Oscars because of the same reasons - feeder fish carry too many diseases IMO. They're not that expensive here anyway, probably about the cheapest fish available. Still not eating, although I thought for a minute...

    Grouper still not eating

Can I use F/W fish as feeders? Just for the short term? I don't want to use them as regular diet, just to encourage him to eat. S/W fish around here are hard to get, and expensive. If I could get away with neons or guppies or similar I could do that tomorrow..... One week since the move and he...

    Anyone ID my new eel?

Anyhow, I managed to move him into the 55, He seems to be settling in there OK. He can stay a while, till the LFS or I can find him a more permanant home. I'd be happy to keep him if He wasn't going to get much bigger, still dissapointed I can't keep him (Although my wife HATES him!). The...

    Anyone ID my new eel?

Thanks again for all your advice. I'll definately take the eel back to the shop. I'd run the risk with anything but the grouper - He's so tame he's like a pet, and I'd hate to lose him to a homicidal eel! The guy I bought the tank off only sold it to me because it was like a pet to him and He...

    Anyone ID my new eel?

Yep...I think so...How long have I got? It would have to be pretty big to kill a grouper that's over 12 inches long, right? Or not??

    Anyone ID my new eel?

OK, is there ANY possibility it's not a Tesselata? I spent over an hour at the LFS, talking to the owner, and he went through all his books - we found a tesselata and he looked different to this one. The one in the book had black and goldish color markings, this one is just plain black and...

    Anyone ID my new eel?

    Grouper's fully grown, about a foot long or so. I've got the grouper, lion and eel in a 240 gal tank - 8' x 2' x 2'. Running 2 cannisters, 1 x 2400 l/h and 1 x 1200 l/h. No more additions planned! I've got a 55 as well, with a HT and a few damsels - 10 gal was eons ago! So you think I may have...

New addition - very hard to get hold of where I am, guy at LFS assured me he'd be fine with grouper and lion - hope He's right! Anyone know what he officially is?

    Grouper still not eating

I bought the entire tank from a guy who lives about a ten minute drive away, we moved the tank, fish, everything last Saturday, move completed within about 4 hours, including bringing in the LFS trailer full of filtered NSW. Grouper had been fed once per day, fresh blue prawns from the...

How long should a Grouper live?

Thanks, he is an awesome fish. I still can't believe the personality he's got. His colour changes are awesome too, last night he was sitting against the bottom and he was almost pure white. Then he swam off and became bright orange again. He's even swimming up to my fingers now and rubbing...

    Weight factor in older homes?

I'm just guessing here, but I'd reckon the weight of an 80 gallon tank would be no more than 500 kg's? That's a lot of weight, but no more than 4 big men. The tank stands on at least 4 legs, so that's only 125 kilo's per leg. If 4 125 kilo men stood together in one spot, each with only 1 foot on...

How long should a Grouper live?

He's real aggressive atm. He charges my fingers if I put them up to the tank. His previous owner could put his hand in and pat him, so I'm thinking He might not be in the mood for a new tankmate? I'll see how he goes tonight...

Mantis safety in 180 gallon fish only???

I had a mantis in a 10 gal for a while, he was amazing. If he's a basher He'll destroy your snails, but I'd think the fish would be OK. If he's a spearer I think he'd probably take out fish during the night. Just my thoughts...

Anyone know what this fish is?

He's s/w, bigger than a damsel, probably about 1/3 the size of a full size Oscar. I think I've also seen similar fish while I've been snorkelling around reefy areas. He came with the tank I bought, even the guy I bought it off doesn't know what he is! Here's another pic...
