    NItrates. I'm baffled...

I feed New life spectrum pellets maybe 2-3 pinches, fish eat all of it, shrimp get the rest. I have a turnover rate of 65x ( as long as you don't count in sump pumps and returns on my skimmer. + 101x turnover rate then) atleast 60x comes from PH's in tank.

    NItrates. I'm baffled...

Or maybe I just don't get haha. I have a 125g that is arguably medium stocked. 12 small fish, cardinals, cromis, blenny, gramma, and 2 clarkii clowns. I have 6" DSB. about 300lbs of LR. A wet/dry and HOB prizm skimmer. A MRC MR2 skimmer setup and Solaris g series lighting. I feed every...

    Nitrate reduction?

Do not doas sugar or vodka. Yes this will feed denitrifying bacteria but it will also feed all other bacteria strands including ones trying to infect your corals and fish, if one fish or coral is not at optimal health it would easily get infected. Better off going with algae scruber, macro algae...

Is it possible to do a saltwater tank w/out a sump?

What's the 20g being used for? She could turn that into a sump. Otherwise, there's no need for a sump if she has appropriate amounts of lr.

    Filtration or Lighting upgrade?

thinking about doing that, not sure what light I could get that would be cheap but still keep SPS. Since I already have the light, I may just use their upgrade kits. Thinking about getting a reef devil refugium with ETSS skimmer, would that be good or not?

I have a 125g lightly stock aquarium that is 2yrs old. I have a 150 pro wet/dry that I want to replace and a 3 yr old G series solaris led lighting system that I'd like to upgrade to I5 with their upgrade kits or replace. I have 250-300 lbs lr and 6' DSB with a undersized prizm skimmer. I have 0...

Do I really need a skimmer?

Definatly good to have, I suggest it because otherwise you will have to have a light stockload and often times even that is not enough( I know from experiance ) and may end up having to get a skimmer any way. You may try hanging it on the side( if theres room) or even above( although that may...

    New tank...

You'll find different suggestions on good beginner fish to get, I personally like clowns, there non aggressive(usually) and are hardy so the can handle some beginner mistakes. However, you have alot of research into filtration, flow, lr/Ls etc. though it sounds like your friend may have you...

I'll look into the octopus skimmer. Sorry if I mis-lead you, its not a 2in1 its a sump that has one of their skimmers attached, not like a skilter, but like it already has it attached.

I really like the skimmers you suggested, not sure how'd i'd fit it in though, seems more simple to get a new sump with the built in skimmers from ETSS but not sure if that would be too much change. Maybe im making it overly complicated. Dunno.

Here's my stock list ( equipment to, had the list handy) Not asking you to read it all, just in case information is nessacary. Tank is 22months old, feeding is minimum(they eat it all quickly, 3 times a week), 125g. Unfortunatly, water changes are pretty much just topoffs with calc. and elements...
