so tango are you saying you dont like reef crystals that much, and that the calcium level is not near 480

so i just purchased a bucket of reef crytal. so if i can see any changes, along with good readings than ill go with reef crystal for alittle. if not then ill go to tropic marin and try again....but i like what i hear from people about reef crystal....

wow i would have thought that would have been a little much. im going to be setting up a 5.5 during my xmas vacation. i will be using a maxijet 600 (160gph) and that would give me a 30x turnover rate. so 43 just sounds high. lion crazz knows his stuff, so i am not disputing it, but like monk...

i gotcha...i know coral like flow. but some softies are not so kean. and since it would be a pain to move corals and rock. i think upgrading my koralia #3's to koralia #4's shouldnt be a problem....

i have a 125 mixed reef. currently my turnover rate is 25.6x....i was thinking of upgrading the koralias to have a turnover rate of 31.2x....again mixed reef. softies, LPS, SPS....I dont think a turnover of 31.2 would be to much for the softies. it wouldnt be that easy to move things around...

there will be sand in the DT. its going in a 5.5. im making a mini sump with fuge inside the tank with acrylic sheets. so in the fuge part will be live rubble. either rubble rock or this rubble sized crushed coral and chaeto....so no need for sand cause its in the DT.....hope that made sense

not getting into the back story of it. but plan and simple. with old school style sand beds. many used crushed coral. but you had to vacuum that to keep it clean. well i received a bunch of crushed coral but a bag of it was all rubble size. i will post a pic. i do believe i know the answer...

well the thread on a mag12 is 3/4". so i did 3/4" then increased size to 1".....obviously your starting off with 3/4" and adjust to your return size if its bigger than 3/4"....

honestly im not sure. but im only attempting a 5.5. with something bigger like maxalmon, maybe more of a concern. even still i have read several threads on foam backgrounds and nobody ever stated that....not saying your making that up, but just not a big topic of the foam projects. so i wouldnt...

i do believe if you use the beckett pond foam like he did, the can says its UV protected. but i would still cover wit epoxy then just apply sand or crushed coral, etc....
