    Diatoms?

I think lighting contributes to this alot. Should always cut back on the lighting during a cycle or when curing LR. I was curing LR in a seperate tank and was leaving the lights on for way too long and I got the golden tint/algae/bubbles crap. Cut down on the lighting to about 6 hours and it...

    puffer question

I have a Valentini Puff and a big Hermit Crab. Tha Puff seems to leave it alone. I have also had Turbo Snails in the tank, but I think I only have BIG one left, tha Puffah got tha rest of em. I am thinking that I want to have more Inverts again, especially a Coral Banded Shrimp, so I might be...

If U Can Have 1 Fish!

A Striped Bass!!!!!!! I'd LOVE to someday have a tank with a half-dozen or so Striped Bass fry in it, then I could release them when they got to a certain length. It would be fun to watch them eat live eels and bait fish. I'll settle for a freshwater Largemouth Bass though!

3 hardy fish dead in 3 days - what's the problem???

I agree. Your pH is too low, and you should have readings of 0 for ammonia and nitrite. What surprises me is the inverts are putting up with these water conditions.

    Advice on live rock order

Nick, a good scrub down with a wire brush will help tremendously when dealing with that amount of die off. It can be very time consuming and quite laborious, especially if you have alot of LR, but it can cut down the curing time. Ofcourse you wont reach everything while manually scrubbing the...

    Why am i losing fish

Hi, I'm from NH too Hmmm, first thing I noticed is your SG. You have inverts, but your SG is listed at 1.021. It should be more like 1.025 w/ inverts. I also have snails and a hermit crab and keep mine at 1.024-1.025. Your pH seems a tad high too. I keep mine around 8.2-8.3. But other than, I...

    Live Rock

Its always a good idea to have a spare heater lying around. I use mine for when I am mixing a fresh container of saltwater for water changes, and if I need to cure live rock. You should always have your saltwater at proper temp. to get the right salinity and SG readings.

Suggestions on getting new lion to eat?

Yup, have some patience. Get some live Ghost Shrimp for him to "stalk". He will eat those. All the while you can continue to show offer him krill and drop chunks of frozen silversides in front of him. If he doesnt take them, you can scoop them back up with a net, and try again.

    dot-dash goby

Holy crap. Yup, its a Decorated Goby. Somewhat rare, atleast around here. I dont see many people with them at all. And yes, they are pretty tough They love meat, and have no problem swiping food from other fish that would normally be considered more "aggressive". Mine frequently takes food...

    When to add live rock?

Yes, I agree. Chuck tha crushed coral in tha trash can. How big is your tank?

    Live Rock

Ya, you can save it. I would get a big Rubbermaid storage container or trash barrel and mix some fresh saltwater (enough to cover all the rock) and then throw all the LR in it. I would probably rinse off the LR real well though before putting it in the container.

    When to add live rock?

You can use your live rock to initiate the nitrogen cycle, no need for a dead shrimp. Add your sand, then your live rock, and then add your saltwater.
