I never noticed any spikes in nitrites or nitrates, and I test every few days so I don't think I could have missed it? I'm also confused about the "free" vs. "total" ammonia. What is the difference between them??

I have a 150 g and was wanting it drilled rather than using an oveflow. Does anyone have any experience drilling glass. Is it difficult for an regular do it yourselfer to do this without risking shattering the glass?? Are the bits expensive? etc. etc.

I just purcheased a nice RO/DI filter and couldn't be happier with it. They are easy to set up and maintain. Get one and you will be happy you did!

Hi all, I'm starting a 150 g FOWLR and I wanted to know how to calculate gph. Is it water that is actually circulated and filtered outside the tank? Or do powerheads placed inside the tank that don't really fliter anything count too? Thanks!

Another idea might be to leave the powerheads out and run your return water from the sump directly to the under-gravel jets. Seems to me like this would be an excellent way to keep recirculating your water. As far as the jets disturbing the sand, they don't cause that much turbulence. My...

They work great in my friend's 120g cichlid tank. There is no settlement on the substrate and it keeps the water moving nicely. Also, it sends any wastes back up to the top of the water where they are then flushed away by the overflow back into the sump.
