Kole Tang picking on Coral Beauty

I absolutely disagree with the above statment that kole tangs are very passive - that is not my experience at all!! I have 220 reef and the kole is my tank bully! I have a naso and a yellow tang that are more than twice his size and he picks on them! All fish in the tank give him a wide path...

    Questioning LFS Goby....

Oceana that sponge thing is a great idea! Just wanted to comment - had never heard that before. I've got a fuge loaded with pods and would like to work them into my larger tank more efficiently. I'm going to have to try the sponge idea! Thanks!

puffer fish and when it dies

The porcupine puffer will not toxify the tank as long as he is removed soon after death. I had my largest porc pass away (he was about 5 inches long) in my 75 gallon and it did not adversely affect the tank at all. I will tell you what was told to me and what I experienced though - be sure...

    New mandy tank

Harlequin I agree wholeheartedly!! I have a 220 gallon reef tank and about 450 lbs of live rock and 300 lbs of live sand - I support a mated pair or mandarin gobies and a scooter dragonet - and I still keep a close eye on my pod population. As a matter of fact, I am running a 46 gallon fuge...

    Recurring Clown Fish Problems

Not long....2 weeks maybe?? I've always had the Cinnamon Clown and he has been in this tank through many of the percula deaths. He has never shown any sign of weakness or illness....originally I thought I had brookynella in my tank - but if that was the case I had assumed the Cinnamon would...

help i got some bad red slime promlem please help.

There is a product called "chemi-clean" that you can buy to eradicate the red algae. It is the ONLY reef safe product that I have found. I treated my 300 gallon reef system and refugium with it and had no ill effects at all. If you can get some chemi-clean, use it and follow the directions...

    Recurring Clown Fish Problems

I have an odd situation. There is something in my tank that is affecting clownfish - specifically percula and possibly maroon species. Everytime I get perculas, they enter my tank and become diseased and die. Now I must mention that this tank is a fully established sytem with over 300 gallons...

    mandarins

Okay...someone besides me better help here. My answer to Zelfin's question would be live rock live rock live rock. I started with a 55 gallon tank with about 80 lbs of live rock. Not enough....one mandarin and the poor guy almost starved to death! So I am up to 450 lbs of live rock now, 300...

    New Hippo Tang Problem

You are going to want to throw something at me for this since you already took your tang back....but I just remembered the trick I used to get mine to eat and actually come out of hiding when they were new to the tank! We took a sheet and wrapped it completely around the tank, covering it...

    New Hippo Tang Problem

Look out....your tang may never stop acting nutty! I agree, the behavior is definitely normal for them...I have a pair and they act like I pulled them directly from the looney bin myself! lol From sleeping upside down to nearly flipping out the top of the tank while speeding wildly around as...

    mandarins

Let me ask....just because you seem a bit uncertain...no offense intended, but you are certain your male is a male, right? I only ask because you have questioned a couple times about the female. The difference in the male and female mandarin are very obvious if you can see them at the same...

    mandarins

I have had good luck with putting mandarins in either way. Male first or female first....but I think tank size has alot to do with it. My pair were introduced separately, in this particular case, female first, and they are now inseparable. My tank is a 220 reef and the pair can be seen...

    Tube Anemone and Mandarin Goby

Okay, I really need some advice. I have a 46 gallon reef tank - it has been set up for over a year and I am now starting to add corals and such. I went to the fish store this weekend and they had a tube anemone that I had been wanting for a while. I thought I had done decent research on it so...
