I'm still pretty new at this but as far as i know there will be fans on most upgraded lighting systems. The reason for the fans it to disperse the heat caused by the lights away from the tank. if it's covered then i'm pretty sure your temp will rise.

When i started my tank it was with 2x15 lighting for almost a month. My inverts were perfectly happy and i had no problems. but my rock was not gaining any color. Some say live rock doesn't need lighting. I agree but think my rocks look much better now that i have 4x65PC that i got for 100 dollars.

So i know what to feed them now. Does anyone have any other tips for keeping them healthy? I'm sure he'll be happy with the live rock i have in the tank.

Yes get rid of the Tang. A yellow tang in a 35 gallon is like keeping your dog in his travel crate all day everyday. also yellow tangs get over 6 inches if i remember correctly. He's gonna be hurtin.

If there is I've never heard of it. As long as the tank is cycled and water tests are good There plenty of different fish you can get. Just don't get ones that need mature tanks.

I bet it's the sand as well. Best bet it to pour in on a powerhead displacing the water...least that's what i do

My tank is about 2 months old and this is the first algea i've had to deal with. I think my Lights have been on too long each day now that i've heard only 10-12 hours a day. i'm gonna go see if the algea is hard i'll even post a pic in a few minutes. i have 10 snails in there right now and there...

Anyone think it's a bad idea to put a Flame angel in my tank with an eel. The eel always hides. Eats my real small fish but doesn't actually bother anyone. He only comes out for like 10 minutes max every other day. Other thing in the tank is a Royal Gramma who has not been bothered or eaten. :)

OK i use distilled water. Nitrates don't seem to get any lower than .10ppm. and i'll order some more tests tonight. Can i scrub the algea off the glass? using a sponge?

Why are some fish reef safe...but not reefsafe when there shrimp? To me that makes no sence....
