you ever think about just getting out of it?

I tried the no-water change route for a year or so. It doesn't work. Not effectively enough anyway. Elements are consumed and bound within the tissues of various reef building organisms. Some of these elements are bound and used way more frequently than others. Also, if your adding calcium...

    Protein skimmer problems!

As stated already, the skimmer needs to go in a compartment of the sump that has the least variation in water level. This is generally the first compartment where the water comes into. It's also the dirtiest water, as geridoc stated, so it will consistently remove more DOC from the system. When...

you ever think about just getting out of it?

Macroalgae and corals do release certain compounds in the water column including tannins and terpenoids. If your not running carbon on a regular basis, it can build up without regularly scheduled water changes. There are too many natural chemicals in seawater that build up due to biological...

Cool. Never thought of a daily change. Makes sense.

you ever think about just getting out of it?

I used to fill tanks with tap and use prime to dechlorinate/dechemicalate it (I know that's not a word, just being funny.) and then would run a deep sand bed to manage the nitrates and phosphates. Granted, I wouldn't add additional tap to the system for top offs after the initial fill. I think...

    App for keeping track?

there wasn't an app for it when I was learning. Lol. I think there is nothing that can replace actual multi-source research, personally. Give it a try. It might be the next big thing.

you ever think about just getting out of it?

My power bill has always averaged about $20 higher per month when keeping a tank. About $10 extra a month on my water bill. I was once one of those penny pinchers because I simply had to be. There are alternatives to many chemicals that we use in and out of our tanks - like pickling lime...

    AI Prime LEDs

Dflo, could you do me a favor? When you go to the Lfs and they have them over their 75g display, can you take a picture of it? I'm interested in seeing what it looks like.

    any computer geeks out there?

It was just Netflix. On my tv. That was having the problem. I think I'll be ok. I changed up a lot of things that should help. Just waiting on Bryce for those program links.

I even disabled remote desktop and made sure it was off and applied the setting before booting the router and then double checked it again.

    any computer geeks out there?

I would very much appreciate that Bryce E. I was actually having a problem with Netflix, so I found what I thought was a Netflix technical support number. I called it and then he directed me to download a remote desktop software program and linked our computers. I thought it was weird that he...

    any computer geeks out there?

I just got some technical support via online remote desktop and I just feel so dang vulnerable now. Especially since the technical support I was getting wanted to sell me $300 worth of antivirus products to help "take care of my problem." They said I had a computer problem and there was some...

First SPS trial was a success...

This time I'll be dipping all my SPS in Bayer advanced insect killer before going in the tank.

First SPS trial was a success...

I temp acclimate and poke a hole in the bag once every 15 minutes. I get about four holes poked and then put them in the tank.

    AI Prime LEDs

Hey yall. Anyone heard of you seen these in person? I really like all of the features on it. Especially the built in wireless/Bluetooth that connects to your phone and has all of the settings that bigger units have. If I had a nano tank I think I would have to try this little system out.
