Setting up an 60 Gallon Tank

I would consider starting the tank with macro algae (usually in a refugium). In that way the tank will start balanced out and stabilized. my .02

I suggest you research the dr randy homles-Farley diy 2 part system. That system uses common baking soda for the alk part. I would also measure pH just before lights out and in the process alk also. my .02

    Trump tax plan

My point was there is no account. I glad you agree there is no money in the social security trust fund. That money was spend on payments to benefits as you stated and used to buy government bonds. which means the money the bonds were purchased with was used to pay government expenses. So now...

    Last nights' Presidential Debates

What I think is amazing is the fox after show analysis and Frank Luntz and his focus group reaction vrs aol/huffinging post, etc, etc reactions. The focus group was disappointed and extremely negative with Trump whereas the others gave you the impression he really took it to the republicans.

    Trump tax plan

On Trump: FWIW He is against china (and Mexico) "cleaning our clocks on trade". To me there is a very dangerous precedent on protectionist trade policy. That precedent was the Smoot-Hawley (spelling) trade act (1930) under Hoover. With the trade protection, just as Trump (and others) seems to...

    Trump tax plan

I not in favor of any tax scheme where there are deductions an more than one tax rate. FWIW as we already know no one has invested anything is social security. None of our money is in the social security account. It has all been spent on wars, controlling our lives, and give a way programs...

License to Drive vs. Right to Travel

    Check your Nitrate today

That one was the 55g also had unmeasureable nitrates and phosphates (api and salifert) on a 29 g for 3-4 years with no losses. I sure you don't mean to suggest or even imply that I had a crash because nitrates and phosphates were unmeasureable.

    Aquarium needs

I would also add macro algae. what you can have a successful tank without is live rock, live sand, and skimmers.

    Deep sand beds

Yep you're correct. I did have another "crash" in the tank on my porch when water temperature rose to over 100 because a heater stuck on. Not too many corals survived that. So guess that's two crashes. Od course I don't recommend tanks basically outside nor do I recommend heaters. On the...

    Deep sand beds

Just for the record I had one tank crash in 9 years of operation. after I used latex gloves with an oil on then attempting to frag some corals. And on the space issue--I used an in tank refugium 3" in front of the back glass. my two tangs (in that 55g) had plenty of chaeto to graze on all...

    Deep sand beds

under the assumption it is working as intented what is happening is you have low oxygen bacteria reducing nitrates to nitrItes and then to nitrogen gas. So at the sand surface you have nitrogen gas, low nitrates, low oxygen and some phosphates. Cyano can fix nitrogen gas as opposed to using...

    Starting a saltwater aquarium

In saltwater there are very few actual rooted plants with circulation system Like the turtle grass mentioned by Guy. But there is a great variety of macro algaes some of which look like FW plants (will kinda sorta anyway). IMHO you should start your tank with macro algaes just like setting up a...
