As for the gaping...T. crocea tends to be a very "gapy" clam as opposed to the other Tridacnids, and what I'm seeing in your clam wouldn't alarm me.
Greg when we talk about gaping are we talking about the shell or the intake syphoning
I do not believe that any clam should be gaping to the point where you can look deep inside. The bottom picture is of my very healthy golden. As you can see there is a very little opening. On the top is the clam reacting to the flash from the camera the white ridge on the shell is what you want...

Ok this is my method and it works. First post a pic of your tank. Now this is what I did to remove my jewel damsel out of my 110g I divide my tank in to fourths in my mind at one forth from the right I moved my LR so I had a clear shot of pushing a piece of acrylic I had cut a little smaller...
If you have aiptasia in your tank it’s really the ones you don’t see that are the problem. The ones you do see can be taken care of fairly easily as mentioned above. Of those methods I would definitely go with some peppermint shrimp to deal with the unseen ones

imo that damsal will not grow to 5 inches
So it seems like something took a chunk out of my mandarins’ gill(white spot in center of pic) she does not seem to be in any distress and there does not seem to be any infection, so I will keep her in the DT and monitor her.
Thanks all for the encouragement, funny is seems that over the last few days the RG has grown a pair. It is out and about more than it has ever been I am wondering if the addition of the mandarin has anything to do with it
OK henry I did not want to jinx myself but I must be truthful, I also have a RG (I know , I know) I have had this fish for about 6 weeks as you can see he is not that fond of having his picture taken

Just for the hell of it this is a picture of a damsel I had and IMO one of the more beautiful looking ones available.
As far as getting one or more out of your tank, I do not believe it will be too much of a problem in a 20g if you use my method of divide and remove
