    Live Mysid shrimp

If you mix it to 35ppt @ 50F it will be 35ppt when you warm it up to 78F. Yes, the Specific gravity will go down. If you add salt to it at that point both Sg and salinity will rise.

    Reverse Osmosis Questions

What carbon do you use for chloramines? Our tap doesn't have chloramine but I'd like to start getting my advice right for people that do.

Snake... you're thinking backwards. A specific gravity of 1.026 @80F is about 35ppt salinity. Don't try to work things by specific gravity when there are large temperature fluctuations because as the water warms the specific gravity goes down while the salinity remains constant. Read the ppt...

    Live Mysid shrimp

Yeah, that's been my experience. Where did you find the research showing actual numbers vs my guessed numbers? For temp, probably above 70F. I don't know if there's a high temp. If it's staying in the 100's there you may want to bury the container. Otherwise the water would probably get...

    Live Mysid shrimp

I pretty much detailed my method. Put old tank water in a 32 gallon Brute container that's sitting in the Sun. Wait until the water turns green and salinity is 50ppt or above and add some brine shrimp or some eggs. If the salinity is kept below 100ppt (topoff) the Artemia will give live birth...

    Live Mysid shrimp

Still not calm enough. I've raised them in the summer in a brute container sitting in the sun with highly saline water. That seems to work. They need Phyto, warmth and stagnant saltwater.

    Live Mysid shrimp

Probably not. Brine Shrimp can be propagated but not in a high flow environment. Mysis... what do you mean? Mysid Shrimp are common hitchhikers so yeah, a piece of live rock can "inoculate" a tank. If you bring so over from another tank then YES if that's what you mean.

How many inverts are TOO many?

Fire Shrimp are nocturnal. They will not naturally come out when the lights are on. Hand feeding them will sometimes work to encourage them to be visible during the day.

How many inverts are TOO many?

There's no practical limit to the number of inverts. The problem is that so many of them eat each other as expensive snacks. For example, Bumble Bee Snails will eat beneficial Worms, Snails, and other inverts that they can catch.

What Are Some Cool Clean-up Crew Members?

Take care to notice the nutritional value of fish food. For example in your picture (interesting nails there) you'll notice that protein is 4%. Compare that to an equivalently priced Mysis Shrimp which will normally be at least double that of Brine Shrimp.

Stock list ideas for 55 reef

The more you wait the more stable it's going to be. That said, once your Nitrites stay at zero for a few days, and Ammonia doesn't pop back up again you're probably good to go for something hardy like Clownfish.

    Naso Tang In 75

Yes, they do OK for a year or so generally. Not something I would call success for an animal that can live 60 years.

    Naso Tang In 75

I have seen Naso's in 55 and 75 gallon tanks. They act erratic, like a caged lion. My opinion is that they are very stressed. Stressed fish don't live long in a captive environment. This is consistent with most open water type fish. It's not necessarily the size of the fish, it's the...
