Phosphate Problem I cant seem to fix

When you clean your tank, do you stir up detritus and siphon it out during a water change? I personally don't like canister filters. But, if you maintain it like you stated, I don't see that as a problem.

Phosphate Problem I cant seem to fix

Post a picture of the tank. It might be phosphates leaching directly from the rocks. The growth patterns on the rocks can help determine if it's phosphates leaching from the rocks or not.

    New 75g Reef Tank

I have got to do some cleaning up tonight and tomorrow. Can't wait to start mixing salt. That probably won't be until Monday though. I'm shopping for a space saver protein skimmer right now. Thinking about a reef octopus but I'm leaving my options open. Someone on another forum recommended a...

    New 75g Reef Tank

I know you have don't a lot with limewater and appreciate all of your advice! I think I will get the two little fishies kalk stirrer afterall. They say that after a while it has trouble stirring, but that shouldn't be much of an issue. Technology and chemicals have evolved a lot since I got...

    55 gal reef tank ideas/suggestions

Thanks for wearing cloths in the photo. If you break up the rock work into islands it may look better. I would also get rid of the PVC. But that's just me.

    New 75g Reef Tank

I found out that if I buy a plastic tote, I should buy one that has either a 2, 4, or 5 in the triangle, so that it won't leach any chemicals. I'll try to find a tote I alreDy own first.

    New 75g Reef Tank

I think I'll use the two little fishies kalk reactor in a ten gallon tank with a maxjet 1200 powerhead and just monitor it to keep it clean and unclogged. I have to clean my wife's car this afternoon before I can work on tank stuff. Lol. Ugh,... Other obligations. Lol

    New 75g Reef Tank

This morning I'll be moving some things around and gettin the tank centered. I need to look into the cost of a vent cover and some curtains for the window. I found that marco rocks has some pretty good deals and it looks like the shapes that I want. I feel too uncomfortable about the thought...

    55 gal reef tank ideas/suggestions

Dflo, That's a great hang on back filter - I have maintained an emperor 400 on a freshwater tank that I service and it has been running for 15 years now, non-stop and without an impeller replacement. Great little HOB filter. Your doing great! keep up the good work, listen to all of the...

    Starting a 55 gallon tank

Bob, If that 55g was taken down four years ago, why don't you post a recent picture of the tank that you said you just did a couple gallon water change on a couple months ago?

40 gal breeder sargassum frogfish/macro algae tank

I like your list of macros. I know almost nothing about scorps though. A good filter and some water flow is what you would need. Mixing the sand is fine, and I would suggest going no deeper than 3 inches with the sandbed unless the scorp likes to hide in the sand and requires something...

    Quarantine Tanks? Yes or No?

The morally and ethically right thing to do is to quarantine all new incoming fish. The practical, cheap and easy way is to not and wish for the best. I have only had a very few fish in my care over the years that have died from something preventable like ich. I do not quarantine fish off in my...
