Shouldn't fish be scared to death of approaching a green carpet anemone?

no they shouldn't instictively stay away, the anemone is designed to eat fish and other things, if its appearance would keep fish away then its appearance would change to be more suitable for capturing prey.

    Latest and greatest: 30g build

the hob filter on the tank is temporary i'm just using it to grab particles for now and circulate water until I get the sump inline.

OK washed and prepped the sand for the fuge, I know my sump style is a little unconventional, still. I hate baffles they limit what you can do with your sump far too much in my experience. 2 3 inch deep tupperware containers are my sand holding areas. I will probably add a wall of plastic mesh...

I love it when tanks start off looking like the bastard child of a horse and a frog. wait for it.

Electricity and water: you aren't paranoid enough

Gotta say over the last 20 years I've had a lot of close calls with electricity. like the time a heater broke in a salt mixing bucket when I started the siphon the old fashioned way as soon as the water hit my tongue straight 120 hit me in the mouth and laid me straight out. I've had multiple...

Electricity and water: you aren't paranoid enough

I did. lol. no it was wired correctly, unfortunately (after inspection of the breakers them selves) 7 years of humidity in the basement which they are installed (floods often, its a field stone foundation) had cause minor corrosion inside the gfci breakers, not enough to fault it but enough to...

Having trouble growing plants in refugium

And that is the generally accepted way to use the term, it makes it easier for people to understand the needs of the very specialized feeders of some, like sponges and tunicates, or obligatory feeders like gorgonians (as in they are obliged to feed because a lot of them cannot photosynthesize...

they are listing the best option lighting for it, and definitely recommending a more light suitable is appropriate, but its not that you can't grow them under different spectrums, say you use 550nm bulb almost pure yellow you would need a lot more wattage to equal the amount of par in other ends...

Having trouble growing plants in refugium

he's sort of splitting hairs (probably to clarify or make it easier for the person he's responding to to understand), frogspawn feed by holding the tentacles in the current and trapping particles and microfauna by shooting it with nematocyst, filtering the water that flows through its tentacles...

6500w of light? I'm sure you mean 65k. and the macros will grow in any range of light that contains PAR if you have enough of it (photosyntheticly active radiation which ranges from 400-700 nm (which would actually be almost all visible light ranges par varies by kelvin. you can grow macro...

Electricity and water: you aren't paranoid enough

yeah mandy thats a very nice set up and honestly insurance companies are great at risk reduction so if they green light it theres a good chance thats its a great way to do it. I'll be re-designing that set up that I have to include splash sheilding as well as new gfci breakers.

Smaller place, bigger tank...My 200DD build

I like the low fish to coral ratio honestly, fewer fish means easier bio-load maintenance related tasks, like nitrate monitoring etc.

Electricity and water: you aren't paranoid enough

All three outlets in the picture above are on their own breaker. I'm still confused as to why the center appears to have tripped fast while the outer two definitely delayed.
