    red mandy in QT

Generally yes, but proactive isn't a bad thing lol. You have a system that works for you and thats all good. In most cases your dealing with wild caught fish, so you never know just what they could have.

As far as treatment, I rarely use any unless the fish shows symptoms. You seem much more proactive tho lol. So as far as mandys its there thick slime coat that helps repel ich. As for other nasties idk. 95% of mandy death tho is from poor nutrition not disease

    red mandy in QT

Interesting lol I've never noticed them snorting anything out. I have seen then spit it out then eat it as to taste test first. Frozen cyclopese too can be offered. If its indeed sucking in the food that is good tho. It shows its willing to atleast sample new foods

    5.5 Fowlr

Lighting by far is the most expensive thing for a reef. Yea skimmers, dosing, ect get up there. However the one single most expensive thing is usually lights. I just spent $300 on mine and I keep fowlr lol

    5.5 Fowlr

Agreed. The lights needed could also over heat a small tank

    red mandy in QT

Yes in my experience they will eat it. It just takes time for them to examine it and decide to eat it. Once they realize its food, there feeding response is much faster.

    5.5 Fowlr

Believe me I'am not trying to be a dick lol. Sw and budget dont generally mix. Sw just isn't cheap, you can def do it on a smaller scale its just much more time consuming and really limits what you can keep. Even in a reef, alot of corals will get aggressive w eachother so they need room apart.

    5.5 Fowlr

Unfortunate but true. If you want to do sw rt the first time I would try a 29 gal. Still small but gives you far more options then a 5.5

    red mandy in QT

Mandys are resistant to ich. Not totally immune but resistant so the qt for them is more to train on frozen. I start w spirulina brine, then move to small mysis. Prawn roe is always eaten but very hard to find. Some have tried small fish eggs w success. My mandys and scooters have all eaten...
