Just ordered a maxspect gyre 130 for the 90G

HI,@chrisely24 I was running one gyer 150 for a few weeks, and found I couldn't get the back and forth flow needed for the corals. All the corals were blowing in one direction, which they were not particularly liking, and we weren't either. It was not aesthetically very pleasing to the eye...

    Spot the fish ??

Mainly tangs. Adding together is the best way to go with multiples of same species. 3 or. 5 same family is better than even numbers of. 2. They have all been cohabiting in a. 4 footer with no rock for nearly 8 weeks. Crusading fingers a larger tank will help even more. Largest is. 6cm...

    Spot the fish ??

Certainly will. We have 11 fish arriving. Can't wait. :). Tank looks so empty & lifeless. Corals are nice but don't have personalities.

    Spot the fish ??

Tank is moving onto 4 months old now, we are very happy with how its going, algae has gone, parameters are stable and good. Very happy with randy's recipe so far. But what missing in this picture, hmmm, no fish, a very bored cleaner wrasse and a 5cm blue tang loving all the space. Oh and of...

    Breeding Mandarin Food

I run a 400g with 2 dragonets, they cleaned my main display out of visible pods within 3 weeks, I really doubt your system would sustain a dragonet for long without regular addition of pods. I am also wondering what your nitrate and phos readings are, you seem to have a ton of algae ? They are...

Fish don't survive long in my display

Your rights some corals like dirty water, dirty water in the reefing game is water with slightly higher nitrates and phosphates. I am having trouble at the moment with my goni's, for some reason I cant get my nitrates and phos up, both around the 0.00 to 0.01. All my 13 gonis have closed and...

Fish don't survive long in my display

I actually don't agree that if its a bad water source all fish will die, if the older fish have been sort of slowly acclimatized to the shit water, over a very long period of time they can get used to it, and the older ones will survive. Had a mate who every single fish he bought would die over...

    My beautiful green spotted dragonets

yeah, a pair works as long as the female is much smaller than the male at time of introduction. Same species/colour will generally get along fine, if you lucky they will become a mated pair but they don't do this all the time, wont kill each other but will get along. Different colors will kill...

Fish don't survive long in my display

Hi ya. Sorry to hear this. I honestly would suggest that it's aggression. Often after lights down. They then become so stressed they don't eat. & slowly shut down. The fact they are lasting 2 months suggests that it may not be gas exchange, 15-20ppm nitrates won't kill fish. However nitrates &...

filter socks in refugium.... yes or no?

I run sock on both down pipes. Saves a ton of detritus build up in the sump over time, the horrid job of changing and washing out weighs cleaning the sump every 6 months. Would be without them.

Some of my beautiful fish ! Warning Photo Heavy.

They seem to think it will be better because of the lead free. Apparently the blue/green tinge the lead has in the glass had a major effect. we will wait and see I suppose. We have the new 10 fish arriving next week, so will be interesting to see those shots.

We actually have the same guys coming around to photograph the new tank, these shots were the old tank, they are interested to see if the starfire lead free glass is any easier or better for pic. Will post some when I get them

you ever think about just getting out of it?

I don't do water changes to keep stuff alive, my nitrate and phos is also a big fat 0 - 0.02, I do water changes because that's what is required to keep things thriving, Anyone can keep things just alive.

you ever think about just getting out of it?

. Salt $169. Rowa $119. Spectrum granules. $39. Water bills electricity bill are all an expense you have to include them in the cost or it's not real. I hate it when people in forums tell newbies its a cheap hobby because you know if done properly it is not a cheap hobby. Anyone that...

you ever think about just getting out of it?

I just don't understand how you can keep a healthy system without regular changes. There are so many elements in the water we don't/ can't test for. I know my tanks inhabitants corals. & fish love a change I actually think it's cruel to NOT do changes. Would love to see the picture of this...
