Electricity and water: you aren't paranoid enough

Yip. Splash proofing is a great idea. that why we have the enclosed grey box around it. and its a fair way away from the water itself. We would have to create a tidal wave for that to get splashed. lol

Electricity and water: you aren't paranoid enough

We all seem to overload our units with tanks. Its a real problem. Our insurance company wouldn't insure us unless we had a separate circuit breaker for each of the power boards associated with our tank. So that meant 3. It might be a good idea anyway looking at the picture. ouch. those 3 clipsal...

Would Phytoplankton replace spot feeding my duncan coral or any other coral?

HI @Tony Jacot Well thank your. If your using "fuel" then I really don't think spot feeding is needed by most corals. The only ones that may need a little extra is things like flowerpot corals and Goniporas. Yes you will love the new 75g. much easier to keep parameters stable on the most...

Would Phytoplankton replace spot feeding my duncan coral or any other coral?

Hi @Tony Jacot I used to target feed all my corals, time consuming and more than that a pain in the butt. (2.5ft deep tank) I started using the Seachemn Trace and Seachem Plus as directed on the bottle and havent target fed anything in the tank for over a year. I have had massive growth...

    Powder Blue With Ich

But surely @beth The size of system shouldn't matter. ? I have more area for the ich to attach too so shouldn't I in proportion have just as many problems as a smaller tank ? They just get less ich I get more ? Or am I not getting something ?

    Powder Blue With Ich

Ok. I don't think QT process is the killer. I think the hospital tank is a killer. A fish needing QT generally comes from a. 3-4 foot lfs under nurished & weak. I do 100% agree with running a QT tank. A hospital tank is very different. Stressing. & catching existing fish in DT does more...

    Powder Blue With Ich

Ich will remain dormant until it sees an opportunity to attach to a weakened or stressed fish with generally lack of slime coat. The reason powders in particular are ICH magnets is because they have a very thin slime coat compared to a lot of other fish, flame angels are the same, very prone to...

    Powder Blue With Ich

Yes. Ich will now live In Your tank ! But will not show it's ugly head again unless you have a new addition, aggression or water out of wack. About 18 months ago I added 2 blue hippos. Both got covered in ich. No other fish got it because they were healthy. & strong & not stressed at all...

    Powder Blue With Ich

You shouldn't have 2 tangs in 75g. But yes, if he's is now stress free & eating a good variety if Hugh quality foods he can rude it out and shake it. The other occupants may or may not get it depending on their stress levels & health. I've had ich on A new blue tang that he got over & no...

10 new fish today, phew all well so far.

We had him about 15 months. One if the hardest fish to get eating. Once he is though very hardy. They don't cope with aggression though. They are extremely peaceful. It actually took me 6 weeks to get him eating, he got so thin we really thought we were going to lose him for sure. With their...

10 new fish today, phew all well so far.

Sold all our stock, didn't think a copperband could put up with 10 tangs in a tank, they are a lot more peaceful than tangs. Didn't want to put him at any risk, so he has gone to a new home where is the show piece fish, he is very happy.

10 new fish today, phew all well so far.

hi, @geridoc yeah thank you for all the good advice, very sensible. I have been watching the ammonia daily, no problems so far, We had an array of larger fish that we sold recently so my bacteria is established, or I never would have attempted this. But Still watching. The tank is 7 x 2.5 x...

10 new fish today, phew all well so far.

HI as most of you would know we took the plunge and followed the rule - add odd numbers of same family & add the altogether. So thats exactly what we did. Here is a quick video of all the new additions. The only existing fish in this tank are the coral beauty and little hippo tang. all the...

    water changes

If tank is set up correctly, then ammonia and nitrites should NOT be in your system at all. The most important thing with changes is matching the salinity and temp of existing water to be as close as possible. The other parameters should be close too, but not quite as important to match as the...

Just ordered a maxspect gyre 130 for the 90G

@pegasus is very correct. The reverse paddles are useless, I have to reverse mine at 90-100% and see very little flow. In fact if it wasn't for the aesthetics of these units on a peninsular tank I probably would have not bought another and gone back to my 4 x tunze. The unit itself is much more...
