    Help! koralina algea bleaching?

Calcium at 400 will not support thriving corraline growth. Try to bump it up to at least 430-450 ppm. Lighting seems fine, in fact my corraline was better before I got my halide lighting. Mine is still growing, don't get me wrong, but not as deep dark purple as it is today with the bright...

White dots on my live rock

Have you changed lights, or lighting schedule? Looks like it is bleaching. How are your calcium, alk, and mag levels? What about PH?

    Stupid snails

Interesting maxalmon....I had 4 decide that they preferred the back side (outside) of the tank beter than the inside of the tank, got tired of picking them off and putting them back in the tank. .......my lfs told me that they like cooler waters, and most reef tanks are too warm for them. I have...

They look like nerite snails, and they do hang around each other. The power head seems to be their hangout.

    Please ID this plant...

I agree, halimeda will take over the tank fine with good calcium levels, good lighting and ample flow. Trim where need be, when it takes hold.

    Have to move tomorrow

The most important element in moving is that you save as much water as you can. Empty the tank as mentioned, and be sure to set it up as soon as possible. Lots of containers with good fitting lids!!!

    Lighting

Sounds intensive, what is the wattage? I would be more concerned with the spectrum of lighting with that type of fixture, and of course the heat.

Does the height of the light matter?

250w in a 30g and 14" off of the water should be fine. Be sure to have good ventilation on the lights so that it doesn't get too hot. But, I am sure that you could house any type of coral in that tank. Some of the sps corals would probably have to be up higher, with good flow, but all of the...

Does the height of the light matter?

Before we can answer this question, we need to now how deep is the tank, and what the light is as far as wattage. 14" may be fine if it is a 24" deep tank and lights are 250w and only housing LPS, and leathers etc. What are you keeping in the tank, and what type of lighting. How deep is the tank?

    Candy cane splitting pics

My candy cane is definately enjoying the new lights.....upgraded from pc lighting a year ago to 150w halides. ( April of 2007) I just recently changed the bulbs from 10k to 20k end of September and everything is popping. Sorry the updated pic is just with the actinics, but you get the idea, it...

    blue sponge?

Why is it that the hitchikers always do well, but the ones that we buy are most likely to die? Beautiful picture. I have a similiar species, but it is purple. Came in on live rock, not bought, and doing wonderfully, has even grown.

    Cost of replacing bulbs

I feel your pain, just dropped about $375.00 on 3 150w 20k, and 4 96w actinics..........My pocketbook is feeling the pain........... Not really sure why they should cost so much, but loosing expensive coral because of bulbs is just not my cup of tea. I just plan in advance for it.
