    drew2005's 75g Upgrade Begins

Day 4 of cycle.... Ammonia - 0 Nitrite - 1.0 Nitrate - 10 SG - 1.021 Temp - 79 ph - 8.0 Could my nitrite have dropped that much in 3 days? Im using a brand new test kit. I also ghost fed the tank for the last 2 days with sinking pellets to see if i get any spike in ammonia. I bought 60lbs of...

    Skimmer during cycle

It won't hurt or prolong the initial cycle. I like running the skimmer during the initial cycle, it gives the skimmer a chance to break in. I read mixed reviews on running it. Ill just run it. It needs to break in anyway. The drain on this skimmer is loud. Something needs to be done about it. I...

    Skimmer during cycle

I bought cured live rock and it sat in the tank, in water, for a day before i had everything running. I was still filling the tank up. Probably had some die off. Just curious if i should run it or not during the cycle? I tested the tank today and i showed no ammonia but my nitrite was 5.0.

Todays water parameters....10 days after starting tank

It really depends on what you plan on keeping. For reef tanks it is recommended to keep salinity 1.024-1.026. Inverts typically require these salinity numbers. However in fish only tanks you could do good with lower salinity say in the 1.021-1.023 range. Salinity does vary in different oceans...

Todays water parameters....10 days after starting tank

Parameters looks good. Your cycling. You should adjust your sg to 1.024-1.025. Other than that all you can do is wait for your nitrite to reach 0 and do a water change to get your nitrate down to as close to 0 as possible.

Tank mount for now. Im considering the wall mount option. I didnt even notice it was an option. The rails do seem a bit flimsy. I like that they give you 3 different sets of optics. Definitely a plus. I played around with them for about an hour and it seems fairly easy to program. Only issue i...

Here are some pics of my new setup. This is a 75g Deep Blue Edge Rimless with Marineland Monterey stand in black. I upgraded the bulkheads from the kit. They seem flimsy and cheap. Here is a list of my equipment that i will be using: Sump: Trigger Systems Ruby 30s Skimmer: Reef Octopus Diablo...

    heater size?

I have two 250 watts on my 180 (total water volume is 265G). I run LED's so that keeps the heat down, as well as having Ecotech Vortech powerheads and my fish room is not heated. I keep my house at 66-68F and my tank is 78F. What led's are you running? Im close to ordering the maxspect p series.

they can be right next to each other in a sump. you would want 2 because if one fails you still have one working. heater size?

Two 150's will cost you more but it's a lot safer that way. Cost really isnt an issue. :) however placement of them is. Could i put both on my sump? Maybe at opposite ends. One where the drain is and one where the return is? I really wanna avoid as much equipment in the main display as i can.

    heater size?

What are your opinions? One 300w or two 150w? 75 gallon tank with about 20 gallon sump. I prefer not to have one heater in my display.
