    Are refractometers worth the $$?

I try to keep my tank at 1.025 but 1.032!? I did have a hydrometer when I had a biocube but since it has a hood, there is little to no evaporation so it stayed pretty constant. I made sure to get a refractometer when I got my rimless tank because that thing likes to guzzle RO water.

    Ocellaris v. maroon clown

My maroon lives in my rbta. She isn't mean, she is more of a brat. She wags her tail at me to push water if my hand comes near her nem. I use to have a percula clown and it actually bit me. I traded that in for my maroon that I have now had for about 8 months. I have heard maroons are meaner but...

is this safe for the nem?

I had a snail on a powerhead once when I was cleaning the tank and I knocked it off and my clown grabbed it while it was falling and threw it in his nem. The nem let go of it after a while but I thought he was going to eat the snail for a second.

Chiller for a 29 Gallon BioCube?

That is too many fish for a 14 gallon. Since biocubes are closed hoods, the temps shoot up in them and can get around 80 easily. During the summer, I had a fan blowing on the top of my biocube to help cool the hood and I left the little top door open. It kept it at about 79. I had ice bottles in...

    SOVIETTACO's 24g Nano-Cube Diary

Tank still looks amazing! What kind of crab is that little red guy? I have one emeral but I want another crab to have to be able to scuttle around and be visible. I don't want any shy ones. My emerald comes out and eats seaweed out of my hand.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I got another chromis to replace the jumper and a couple of more frags. Here is a pic of the moonlights in action that wonderful Eddie replaced for free. Also, I am getting a thick plastic sheet that they use for windows, plexiglass, and I am going to cut put a...

Scratch that, just got home and one of the chromis decided to floor dive. I had them for a week and then this one decided to commit suicide. Devil jumped through the egg crate. I may have to see if there is something better to stop jumpers.

clarification on the "1 inch of fish per gallon of water" theroy

I had a firefish and I hated it. I read that they do better in pairs or schools and they feel more safe. All mine did all day was hide and if you made any sudden movement, away it would go. I really didn't care that it disappeared one day (probably eaten).

    Little rock attachment.

I use frag glue. It is safe to be in the water and if you use regular super glue, harmful chemicals may leech into your water. You get high and cough if you get a wiff of the super glue so imagine what it does to your little fishies.

So I bought some new frags for my tank and two tiny blue reef chromis were added. I bought an awesome red flowerpot coral frag, an electric green brain frag, and a torch coral frag with electric green tips. I will post some updated pics tonight! Sad news, my moonlights stopped working but I...

Auto Top Off - Your Thoughts?

I am already tired of checking sg everyday and refilling my tank to a specific amount. It chugs nearly half a gallon a day...in winter! I can only imagine what it is going to use during the summer. What are some good ATO systems that aren't an arm and a leg? Thoughts?

    HQI over JBJ nano DX

Not in my opinion, 14k or 20k will not eliminate the need for actinics. Actinics emit light at a different wavelength than HQI lighting and that is to supplement corals that are found in deeper waters, because the light is bluer. Some sites say that 14k lights will eliminate the need for...

    new tank. new problems..

7 fish in a 2 week old tank with only 20 something pounds of live rock is not a good idea with what nova said. That is entirely too fast and too much. I hate to say it but I highly doubt all your fish make it another month. That is probably why your clowns are sick. You are essentially putting...

I don't have a saw here! I also am leaving a square in the middle right under the metal halide so that none of the light will be diffused right under the light. I just basically want a perimeter around the rim of the tank. If it jumps in the middle...it can wiggle its way through a hole...
