Algae is beginning to appear on my Xmas Favia. How do I remove it?

Well I've tried everything and as a last resort I took it to one of my most frequented LFS (not the one I originally got the coral from, they went out of business) since they have a recovery tank for sick corals. Anyway yesterday I went back to check on the coral and get some aquarium...

    How to screen powerheads.

Well after I got off work yesterday afternoon I screened the powerheads using the advise given and then went and got the cucumber. I put it on the lowest rock in the center of the tank and it climbed up to a higher rock and extended its feeding tentacles. Since my research on these cucumbers...

    How to screen powerheads.

For the record my powerheads are not all that powerful, I have a 40 gallon tank so the powerheads in it are strong enough for that size. I've seen my turbo and trochus snails crawl along the suction areas and not get harmed... but I'd like to make the powerheads cucumber proof since I am wanting...

    How to screen powerheads.

Hey guys, I was wondering what the best methods are to screen your powerheads so that delicate creatures such has sea hares and cucumbers don't get sucked up are without weakening the flow? If you have any "how to" pics that would be great to! Thanks! :D

Algae is beginning to appear on my Xmas Favia. How do I remove it?

Title pretty much says it all. What is the best way to remove the algae without harming the coral? OR Is/will the algae even harmful to the coral? Here's a pic: In case you can't see it, its the darker green patch near the "top" of the coral in the pic.

    Starfish injury?

So I've had this starfish in my tank for several months now, and everything seems great. Last week I noticed that it looked like the tip of one of its "arms" got squished flat somehow. I have no idea how it happened since I haven't moved any rocks around and I don't have any other creatures that...

    ARROW CRAB.

I've had Arrow Crabs and they've never bothered any of my other reef critters. I think they look interesting and whenever company is over its usually the Arrow Crab that that impresses people. The only thing I've caught my Arrows doing is sometime I'd see one eating a dead hermit, but I don't...

Pet Store Incompetence = my benefit

Well, in her defense, I could see why she would think the shrimp she was going after were Peppermint Shrimp. Still pretty funny that she insisted she get you the 2 Cleaner Shrimp even after you told her those weren't the shrimp you wanted though lol!

Thinking about a nudibranch tank. What would the essentials be?

Hey all so I've been daydreaming of a second reef tank for a while now and I think the thing I would like to try would be a reef that would feature a collection of nudibranches. They are just so colorful and beautiful that I'd love to give a tank for them a shot. I know that most are poisonous...

    ECORAY112D NOT a satisfied customer......

I had a similar experience with Ecoexotic. I contacted them when I discovered one of the diodes wasn't working and they said they would be happy to repair it for me if I sen't them the light. I decided it wasn't worth it for just 1 diode because while waiting to get the light back my coral will...

How long can a protien skimmer be turned off for?

@ Flower yeah the thing is easy to clean... The thing easily comes out of the clamp that is attached to the suction cup so all you need to do is rinse it out in the sink and then put it back in when you're ready to start raising more shrimp :)

How long can a protien skimmer be turned off for?

@ Flower after messing with this thing for the last few days I do believe it is possible to "hoard" some of the shrimp by simply not turning the air pump the device is attached to on. Without the bubbles the shrimp tend to stay in the "collection chamber" and don't get pushed out into the...

Amazing finds at a new shop in SoCal.

I hope I'm not violating any forum rules by praising a new store I found but I've had such an amazing experience at this one shop LA I feel I need to get the word out. So I thought I've been to all the shops in my local area until some random youtube video poped up about a shop in Santa Monica...
