When was the last time it was cleaned? For what it's worth, my skimmer pulls heavy after feeding, but it does not pull so much out though out the day. Or at least I don't notice it.

Take it all apart and all the parts soak. Then wipe them down with a toothbrush and wrap, rinse in warm water and then reassemble.

I have all those colors except yellow. I would also suspect yellow as being a sponge, but anything is possible. Usually my pink turns to purple over time, however, in my tank it is starting to spread more and more.

Filter floss to wipe the glass then an algae scraper to scrape the glass. Vinegar and water to soak my powerheads for cleaning. A toothbrush to assist in cleaning my auto neck cleaner. That's it. Everything else arm pit deep on the tank to get into the hard spots.

Yup. It's natural to over think it. I did the same thing. Most of the hard corals you can just break off. When I frag SPS I just break off a branch with my fingers.

I just reach in a break a piece. It grows pretty quickly and in a couple weeks you will barely be able to tell the difference
